A Message from the President
In reflecting on the angel’s proclamation to the shepherds—“Fear not, for
behold I bring you tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people!”—
Martin Luther observed that this joy was not “just to apostles, prophets,
and martyrs, but to you.” God announces a Savior who will free us from
all fear: Come, see the Baby Jesus! It is a gift of pure joy we are to receive,
and the way to receive it is to let Christ be born in us.
Christ is born in us when we live in the vision of a future grounded in the
joy and grace of God’s abundance. He is born in us when we reflect God’s
love and compassion in service to our neighbor. He is born in us when we
proclaim the Christmas Gospel in music, the Word, and the visual arts.
Proclaiming Jesus’s birth is the essence of Christmas at Luther. Through
choristers and bells, brass, percussion, and strings, more than 600 student
musicians bring joy to the world. May their jubilation stir your soul and
connect you with the power and radiance of God’s love.
