FOCUS AREAS SUCCESS MEASURES<br />

3.1 Stop so many young people dropping out <strong>of</strong> sport <strong>and</strong><br />

help them to reach their sporting potential by developing<br />

co-ordinated action plans to provide effective sport <strong>and</strong><br />

physical activity pathways from entry level to elite status<br />

3.2 Use the 2012 Games as a catalyst to stimulate<br />

coordinated participation <strong>and</strong> development in grassroots<br />

through to elite level sport.<br />

3.3 Ensure every child in the <strong>Borough</strong> can swim<br />

3.4 Increase career opportunities in sport for young people<br />

3.5 Improve support for talented athletes<br />

3.1.1 Development plans adopted <strong>and</strong> improvement action plans implemented for:<br />

football; cricket; dance; netball; health <strong>and</strong> fitness; basketball; athletics; disability<br />

(inclusive <strong>and</strong> active); cycling; rugby; h<strong>and</strong>ball <strong>and</strong> aquatics (by March 2015).<br />

3.2.1 A programme <strong>of</strong> promotional activities will be implemented to harness the pr<strong>of</strong>ile <strong>of</strong><br />

the talented athletes in the <strong>Borough</strong> to encourage <strong>and</strong> inspire local people to get<br />

physically active (by September 2012)<br />

3.2.2 Delivery <strong>of</strong> an Olympics related events programme in particular Countdown –<br />

<strong>London</strong> 2012 open weekend which will <strong>of</strong>fer the community tasters <strong>and</strong> pathways<br />

into sport <strong>and</strong> physical activity participation.<br />

3.2.3 Co-ordinate the council’s involvement in the Olympic torch relay (July 2012)<br />

3.2.4 Stage inter-school <strong>and</strong> cross sport games <strong>and</strong> participate in the <strong>London</strong> Youth<br />

Games each summer.<br />

3.2.5 Adopt the Host <strong>Borough</strong> sports development plans for cycling, tennis, athletics,<br />

basketball, hockey, aquatics <strong>and</strong> disability sports that set targets for 2011 – 13 <strong>and</strong><br />

costed implementation programmes to increase adult <strong>and</strong> young peoples<br />

participation levels (to included targets for BAME, women <strong>and</strong> low income<br />

families).<br />

3.2.6 Stage a novice triathlon<br />

3.3.1 1,800 children <strong>and</strong> young people enrolled on learn to swim programmes each<br />

year.<br />

3.3.2 900 children <strong>and</strong> adults learn to swim each year (achieved KS2/stage 6)<br />

3.4.1 Number <strong>of</strong> people in vocational training <strong>and</strong> apprenticeship programmes.<br />

3.5.1 Change the schools admission criteria from 2012/13 for <strong>Barking</strong> Abbey <strong>and</strong><br />

Robert Clack schools to allow selection <strong>of</strong> a proportion <strong>of</strong> the admission number<br />

<strong>of</strong> children on the basis <strong>of</strong> their aptitude for sport – up to 24 children per academic<br />

year.<br />

3.5.2 Financial support provided via the Living the Dream Trust, LBBD gifted <strong>and</strong><br />

talented programme <strong>and</strong> FANS programme.
