(Members of <strong>USBC</strong> who conduct themselves in a manner deemed not within standards expected of youth bowlers while enroute<br />

to, while in or in route from the State <strong>Tournament</strong> cities shall be suspended immediately by the coach, tournament official or<br />

State <strong>USBC</strong> Officers. They shall be disqualified from further participation in the tournament and reported to <strong>USBC</strong> for formal<br />

suspension from <strong>USBC</strong>.)


<strong>2012</strong> NORTH DAKOTA <strong>Pepsi</strong> <strong>USBC</strong> <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Championship</strong>s<br />

Rules & Format<br />

1. This tournament is certified by the United States Bowling Congress (#4498) and shall be governed by <strong>USBC</strong> rules.<br />

2. All bowlers must be a <strong>USBC</strong> <strong>Youth</strong> Member. After competing at the league level may bowl in the state tournament. One time entry.<br />

3. Advancers out of the league level must remain in the division they qualified in during all subsequent levels. If a bowler advances out of the league level in more than one<br />

state/zone, the bowler must declare one state/zone to continue competing before the next competition level. Participation in any level of competition past the league level in<br />

more than one state/zone will result in automatic disqualification.<br />

4. The state competition will take place at Red River Lanes, 707 28th Ave N, Fargo, ND 58102 (Phone: 701-235-1171) on March 31, April 1, 14, 15, 21, 22, <strong>2012</strong>, Saturday<br />

- 3:00 pm or 6:00 pm, Sunday - 9:00 am, 11:30 am or 2:30 pm. The Semi-finals and stepladder will be held at Paragon Bowl, 1125 W Villard St, Dickinson, ND 58601<br />

(Phone 701-225-2345) on May 5, <strong>2012</strong> @ 9:00 am (MOUNTAIN TIME).<br />

5. Entry closing date is April 22, <strong>2012</strong>. <strong>Tournament</strong> entry form containing qualifiers’ name, address, telephone number and <strong>USBC</strong> ID must be submitted to the tournament director<br />

by this date.<br />

6. Divisions are based on the participant’s age as of August 1, 2011. Athletes must choose the division in which they will compete. ***Bowlers in the 12 and above division<br />

who have an entering average of 211 or higher MUST compete in the scratch division.*** Athletes are not mandated to be <strong>USBC</strong> Junior Gold Program Members to<br />

enter the Scratch Division. However, athletes must be Program Members or be eligible and buy membership prior to advancement to the <strong>USBC</strong> Junior Gold <strong>Championship</strong>s.<br />

Competition will be conducted in six (6) divisions: Boys’ Handicap - Age 11 & under; Girls’ Handicap - Age 11 & under; Girls’ Handicap - Age 12 - & over; Boys’ Handicap - Age<br />

12 & over; Girls’ Scratch - Age 12 & over & Boys’ Scratch - Age 12 & over. State Finals for Age 11 & under - total pins plus handicap for the three game series will determine<br />

the state champions in the Boys and Girls Age 11 & under divisions. State Semi-Finals qualifying for all divisions Age 12 & over: Bowlers will roll six (6) games with total pins<br />

(plus handicap if applicable) to determine the top six (6) bowlers in each Red River Lanes, Fargo, ND to compete in a step-ladder competition to determine the ND State<br />

Champions. Any ties to determine advancement to the state semi-finals or during the step-ladder competition must be broken by a one-game roll off, if there is still a tie, it<br />

will be broken by a 9 th and 10 th frame roll-off, plus 1/10 of the handicap per frame where applicable (refer to <strong>USBC</strong> Rule 326a)<br />

8. Awards and scholarship fees shall be returned 100% to the bowlers. Scholarships will be held and deposited in the SMART program under the North Dakota Account # 8539.<br />

(<strong>USBC</strong> Rules 301d and 309 states that all scholarships awarded during the <strong>USBC</strong> certified event must be deposited in the SMART program).<br />

9. All bowlers must wear suitable attire. No hats/caps allowed. No smoking by guests or athletes on the concourse or in the settee area, only in designated areas.<br />

10. No substitutes will be permitted once athletes have started tournament play, however, replacements may be used for bowlers not present (5) minutes prior to the squad time<br />

as stated in rule 4.<br />

11. Competitors shall be allowed 10 minutes of practice on their starting lanes. Bowlers Age 11 & under will remain on a set of lanes. Bowlers Age 12 & over will move at least<br />

one pair of lanes to the right after the first set of three games.<br />

12. If no replacement has been made, bowlers arriving late shall begin play and the score shall count beginning with the frame then being bowled. Missed frames shall be<br />

credited with a zero. Frames may not be made-up. A bowler not present to bowl when it is his/her turn will be credited with a zero for that frame. (<strong>USBC</strong> Rule 322)<br />

13. Bowlers shall use their highest current certified league average, minimum of 12 games, as of as of midnight March 1, <strong>2012</strong>. If the minimum has not been met, the bowler<br />

will bowl scratch. Averages must be verified by a standing sheet.<br />

14. Handicap will be 100% of the difference between a bowlers average and 210.<br />

15. Only bowlers and tournament officials will be allowed in the settee area.<br />

16. Claims for errors in scoring or general playing rules must be made to tournament director no later than the start of the next block or 30 minutes after competition of the<br />

tournament. Questionable errors shall be decided by the tournament director. All other protests must be confirmed in writing to the tournament director within 72 hours or<br />

before the awards are presented. Under this rule, each protest must be specific in itself.<br />

17. Symbolic awards will be given on a one trophy per six entries plus all ties. Olympic type medals will be given to all semifinalists.<br />

18. Scholarships will be given to the following: 1 st Place Boys’ Handicap - Age 11 & under $200; 1 st Place Girls’ Handicap - Age 11 & under $200; 1 st Place Boys’ Handicap, Girls’<br />

Handicap, $300, 2 nd Place Boys’ Handicap, Girls’ Handicap, $200, 3 rd Place Boys’ Handicap, Girls’ Handicap $150, 4 th Place Boys’ Handicap, Girls’ Handicap, $100; 1 st Place<br />

Boys’ and Girls’ Scratch, $500, 2 nd Place Boys’ and Girls’ Scratch, $300, 3 rd Place Boys’ and Girls’ Scratch, $100.<br />

19. The first place winners and runner-ups of the 12 and over Girls’ and Boys’ Scratch Divisions will advance to the <strong>2012</strong> North Pointe Junior Gold <strong>Championship</strong>s on July 14-<br />

20, <strong>2012</strong> in Indianapolis, IN. They must be <strong>USBC</strong> Junior Gold Members to advance to the North Pointe Junior Gold <strong>Championship</strong>s. <strong>USBC</strong> will waive the $200 entry fee for<br />

these athletes. These athletes will then still compete for additional scholarships available to all athletes at the championships, as well as other prizes and awards. All US<br />

citizens are vying for a spot on <strong>USBC</strong> Junior TEAM USA 2013 to represent the United States in national and international competition. If the Scratch Division Champion or<br />

runner-ups are unwilling/unable to become a <strong>USBC</strong> Junior Gold Member and will not advance to the <strong>Championship</strong>s, the athlete will still retain the state/zone scholarship,<br />

but the berth to the <strong>Championship</strong>s will be awarded to the next eligible athlete. An award of $300 per for 1st and 2nd Place in the scratch division will be given for travel/<br />

stipend expenses (from the ND <strong>Pepsi</strong> Committee).<br />

20. Eligible advancers must agree to bowl in the North Pointe Junior Gold <strong>Championship</strong>s, or, failing to do so, agree to waive all rights. Replacements will be selected on<br />

the order of finish in their division at the State Finals Competition. Replacements will incur all expenses associated with changing the airline ticket, if applicable. If the<br />

eligible advancer decides not to attend the North Pointe Junior Gold <strong>Championship</strong>s, the state scholarship won may be withdrawn. This decision will be made by the state<br />

tournament committee.<br />

21. All matters not covered by these rules and regulations shall be determined by the State ND <strong>Pepsi</strong> <strong>USBC</strong> <strong>Youth</strong> <strong>Championship</strong>s Committee. The National <strong>Pepsi</strong> <strong>USBC</strong> <strong>Youth</strong><br />

<strong>Championship</strong>s <strong>Tournament</strong> Committee reserves the right to accept or reject any participant.<br />
