three of <strong>the</strong> organisations immersion programmes were studied <strong>and</strong><br />

ca<strong>te</strong>gorised according to a “typological analysis” (LeComp<strong>te</strong> & Preissle<br />

1993:257) based primarily on key words used on <strong>the</strong> prompt cards <strong>and</strong><br />

o<strong>the</strong>r ideas that emerged from <strong>the</strong> data. This also applied to song books, 9<br />

<strong>the</strong> wr<strong>it</strong><strong>te</strong>n rules 10 set out for ideal student <strong>and</strong> <strong>te</strong>acher conduct <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

stra<strong>te</strong>gic plan, containing <strong>the</strong> vision <strong>and</strong> guiding principles.<br />

Transcribed in<strong>te</strong>rview ma<strong>te</strong>rial was fed into NVivo, a compu<strong>te</strong>r program<br />

designed specifically to assist qual<strong>it</strong>ative researchers to “discover, retain,<br />

review <strong>and</strong> rethink” (Bazeley & Richards 2000:23) about <strong>the</strong>ir data. Key<br />

search words used from <strong>the</strong> prompt cards provided <strong>the</strong> framework for a<br />

straightforward way of dealing w<strong>it</strong>h <strong>the</strong> data. W<strong>it</strong>h <strong>the</strong> focus remaining on<br />

analysis, emerging aspects of this <strong>the</strong>ory became apparent as this <strong>the</strong>sis<br />

was wr<strong>it</strong><strong>te</strong>n.<br />
