the Philadelphia Inquirer, on Monday,
refers to two of Ocean City's old and
honored garment, Aqallta D. Shiarp
and William' (more familiarly known
aa "Uncle Benny'•') Chew, a» follows:
In the ramous old hunting RroundH
ment company, limited, of
Thus far they hav» spent 4SOOJ00O InJ
purchasing land, which' Includes 8000
acres In Cape May City and adjoining
lands and also 1000 acres on the Two
Mile Beach, and now own the' beach
almost exclusively. The company has
also, purchased the Cape May .electric
light plant for (100,000, •-
The operation was-begun several
months ago by Anthony M. Zane, of
Philadelphia, and Ca tain Frank ti.
Edwards, of Bristol,, owner of the
steamer Republic, • • '
Aided by the city, they propose to
pave all streets, lay new sidewalks and
construct > new sewers. The company
Intends constructing a. lake for yachts
with a water, surface covering A0O
acres. Conferences with government
officials at Washington are said ta
have resulted In promises to deepen
Cold Spring Inlet so that the largest
ocean going yachts will be able to
enter the lake. Around this lake will
built cottages for yachtsmen and
their families. • . •_
It b pbnned to' build two and per-,
baps three large seaside hotels. One
sary land will be secured aud contracts
let. . The cottages will cost 61O.00O
each, and wUI be built by a Phlladel-
phb firm. The flrst hotel for which
plans have been completed will cost
•1,000,000. It will probably be located
half way between Madison avenue aud
Bewell's Point on tbe beach front.
The second hotel will, cost ««Q0,o0o,
motives will cut down tbe runnlug
time. The Reading company will also
lower the time tor fust express train
The Capd May citizens and public-
