Africa Skills Village would like to provide an opportunity for labourers and employees in<br />

technical and engineering fields to receive recognition for prior learning and skills.<br />

Candidates need to comply with specific criteria as stipulated in the Manpower Act.<br />

This is also a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process. It is for people who has<br />

completed all required training or a person who has never been trained but works as an<br />

‘artisan’ and meets all the requirements to qualify.<br />

Trade Tests offered by Africa Skills Village are available in the following scarce and critical<br />

trades:<br />

Welder Bricklayer Carpenter<br />

Plumber Electrician<br />

Entry level requirements & Process<br />

For an applicant to be eligible to do a trade test the applicant must write the pre trade test<br />

evaluation and submit the following documents:<br />

• Completed prescribed application form to attempt a trade test<br />

• Certified copies of identity document<br />

• Certified copy of highest educational qualification<br />

• Certified copy of National Certificate Part 2 (N2) or equivalent<br />

• Written proof of relevant previous experience on the legal company letterhead<br />

including the registration number and contact person details<br />

• Copy of the pre Trade Test Evaluation results<br />

• The prescribed Medical Declaration questionnaire<br />

• Record of Practical Experience<br />

1. What are the requirements for section <strong>28</strong>?<br />

No Qualification : 6 years formal experience<br />

Only N2 trade theory: 5 years formal experience<br />

Full N2 qualification : 4 Years formal experience<br />

2. The difference between the ASV Trade Test and INDLELA Trade Test?<br />

There is no difference because the trade test itself is exactly the same. The route of funding<br />

or registration might be the only difference. The Department of Higher Education & Training<br />

issues the certificates with the “RED SEAL”.<br />

• Verification of all evidence prior to scheduling for the trade test<br />

• DoHET is the accredited Moderation body for all training and testing<br />

• Certification by the Department of Higher Education & Training<br />

• Eden Skills Village centre is the accredited venue to train (educate) and assess:<br />

o Carpentry<br />
