The <strong>Cretaceous</strong> succession of <strong>the</strong> sou<strong>the</strong>rn flank of <strong>the</strong> <strong>syncline</strong> (HERBIG & FECHNER 1994) starts with 60 m<br />

of bedded dolostones, yellowish-brown and red siltstones and mudstones and buff to olive marls with intercalated<br />

beds of calcareous sandstones and dolostones ("serie rose" of <strong>the</strong> Sidi Larbi Formation, ANDREU & CHARRIERE<br />

1986). 150 m of monotonous light-coloured yellowish to olive marls with few intercalated dolomite beds follow<br />

("serie jaune" of <strong>the</strong> Sidi Larbi Formation). On top, <strong>the</strong> up to 54 m thick upper Cenomanian/Turonian<br />

Amghourzif Formation of ENSSLIN (1993) yielded <strong>the</strong> ammonite fauna dealt with herein. It represents <strong>the</strong><br />

classical guide level of <strong>the</strong> "barre calcaire du Cenomano/Turonien" of CHOUBERT (1948). According to ENSSLIN<br />

(1993 ), it represents <strong>the</strong> lateral, strongly calcareous facies equivalent of <strong>the</strong> mad-limestone succession of <strong>the</strong> Ait<br />

Ben Ali Formation <strong>from</strong> <strong>the</strong> Tighboula and nor<strong>the</strong>astern Oudiksou <strong>syncline</strong>s (ANDREU & CHARRIERE 1986).<br />

The Amghourzif is over lain by <strong>the</strong> Ait 'Sba Formation (ANDREU & CHARRIERE 1986 ). The formation was<br />

emended by ENSSLIN (1993) to include all late <strong>Late</strong> <strong>Cretaceous</strong> strata of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Middle</strong> Atlas and <strong>the</strong> Haute<br />

Moulouya, which widely is a quite monotonous, mostly marginal marine series. Fur<strong>the</strong>r subdivisions (" Ait<br />

'Sba Formation" sensu ANDREU & CHARRIERE 1986, "Calcaires d'Ich ou Sklou", "Marnes de Tighboula") are<br />

only recognizable within <strong>the</strong> Tighboula <strong>syncline</strong>. In <strong>the</strong> <strong>Bou</strong> <strong>Angueur</strong> <strong>syncline</strong>, it is a sequence of buff marls and<br />

siltstones with few intercalated, thin dolostone beds, which strongly resembles <strong>the</strong> "serie jaune" of <strong>the</strong> Sidi Larbi<br />

Formation. In <strong>the</strong> middle part of <strong>the</strong> formation yellowish brown, thin- to thick-bedded sparitic limestones and<br />

intercalated whitish or yellowish marls form a conspicuous rock ledge. The few <strong>ammonites</strong> described herein have<br />

been obtained <strong>from</strong> strata somewhat below <strong>the</strong> rock ledge.<br />
