Strip tiles come into use whenever<br />
whole bricks cannot be used<br />
for whatever reason. A typical<br />
example of this is the modern<br />
external thermal insulation<br />
composite system. Strip tiles are<br />

Strip tiles do not require any<br />

to repaint or reclean brick slips.<br />
Strip tiles are protection<br />
Strip tiles have gone through<br />
fire temperatures over 1000°C.<br />
This makes them extremely<br />
robust against everything that<br />
comes from outside: frost and<br />
heat, driving rain and hail, knocks<br />
and scores. Walls with strip tiles<br />
are simply indestructible.<br />

The selection of original <strong>Röben</strong> strip tiles is so<br />
large that there is the right brick slip for the<br />

modern trends.<br />
Original <strong>Röben</strong> strip tiles are also available for<br />
„round the corner“ as angle strip tiles. For perfectly<br />
defining the external corners and door and window<br />
reveals. You cannot tell the difference between<br />
the bonded strip tiles facade and a conventionally<br />
bricked wall once it has been pointed.<br />

RENOVATING THE FACADE COULD NOT BE<br />

Practical experience demonstrates<br />
that the most effective thermal<br />
insulation is only possible<br />
when the building’s facade insulation<br />
is executed professionally.<br />
The possibilities of facade insulation<br />
are numerous and require<br />
extensive knowledge both by<br />
planers and architects, in particular<br />
regarding the system’s functionality<br />
and its application<br />
range. It is not just technical<br />
performance which plays an<br />
important role but also maintaining<br />
the value of a building not<br />
least of all shown in the selection<br />
of a fitting facing. External<br />
thermal insulation composite<br />
systems (ETICS) have more than<br />
proven their worth in facade<br />
renovation. Principally, it is a<br />
question of systems where all<br />
the components need to be<br />
balanced with one another.<br />
Otherwise, one can reckon with<br />
a limited performance or even,<br />
in the worst case scenario,<br />
structural damage.<br />
In renovation work, the fundamental<br />
advantage of an ETICS<br />
is the very fact that no additional<br />
foundation is necessary.<br />
The complete system is permanently<br />
bonded to the old facade.<br />
The ETICS regulates warmth<br />
and weather proofing and also<br />
serves as a design feature for<br />
the exterior. The outer skin,<br />
therefore, has a very important<br />
role to play: it must protect the<br />
damageable insulation layers<br />
from every possible factor be it<br />
from frost and heat, driving<br />
rain and hail, knocks and scores.<br />
<strong>Röben</strong> strip tiles are absolutely<br />
ideal for this. No other protection<br />
could be more reliable.<br />

bonded and pointed, a <strong>Röben</strong><br />
strip tiles facade is indistinguishable<br />

<strong>Röben</strong> ceramic clinker strip tiles come from the<br />
„Kannenbäcker Land“, a region in Westerwald,<br />
Germany, famous for its excellent clay deposits.<br />
Such white and light firing clays of this special<br />
quality are found nowhere else. Basically, <strong>Röben</strong><br />
clays contain three essential types of mineral:<br />
kaolinite, quartz and illite. Kaolinite guarantees<br />
the perfect white well-known in porcelain manufacturing.<br />
Quartz, in its pure crystalline state, is<br />
partially very fine and unusually clean, practically<br />
without any coloured inclusions, which is also a<br />
requirement for a pearly-white clinker. Thanks to<br />
illite, ceramic clinker strip tiles can be densely<br />
fired to achieve water absorption of less than<br />
2% meaning that the brick slips practically<br />
absorb no additional moisture. This is a great<br />
advantage with white walls since dust, which<br />
collects everywhere, is simply washed away the<br />
next time it rains. And the facade stays clean.<br />

Coloured glazed ceramic clinker<br />
strip tiles make things very colourful.<br />
They can frame windows and<br />
doors, add colour to pillars, add<br />
interest to facades and make every<br />
kind of patterning possible.<br />
Gleaming opaque glazes interchange<br />
with matt surfaces, vibrant<br />
colours with fine pastel shades. All<br />
<strong>Röben</strong> glazes are completely free<br />
of toxic materials. Their particular<br />
brilliance is thanks to the white<br />
ceramic clinkers which serve as a<br />
„canvas“ for all the fine glazes.<br />
They are doubly applied to the<br />
unfired brick. During the subsequent<br />
glost firing they permanently<br />
bond to the ceramic clinker and<br />
keep their intensity a lifetime. On<br />
request, <strong>Röben</strong> can glaze smooth<br />
and slighty scored strip tiles and<br />
angle strip tiles in all formats upon<br />
request.<br />

<strong>Röben</strong> use a special mixture of clay to fire the<br />
classic red and blue strip tiles. The vibrant „brick<br />
red“ is only one of the many colours.<br />
The palette contains an unending number of<br />
red varieties from Friesian red to autumn leaves,<br />
from blue-red to volcano variegated. Each<br />
colour is more beautiful than the next. The<br />
variety of colours and nuances are typical<br />
characteristics of these strip tiles. And the<br />
light ring that is heard when two strip tiles<br />
are lightly knocked together.<br />
