I wish to state my concern over the results achieved this term. It is clear that some pupils are on a
hiding to nothing. The grade 9s seem to be very casual about their academics [with some visible
exceptions]. I will not hesitate to retain them in the grade in 2014 if they are not ready for grade
10. Same goes for grade 10 and 11. No pupil will be fast tracked into the next grade without earning
their stripes. I trust that certain pupils will have action taken against them at home. Many have
achieved what they set out to achieve and they are to be commended. I am proud of those who
achieved despite academic barriers that they may have faced. CONGRATS TO THE TOP 10.
SO PROUD OF THE
MATRICS!! WELL
DONE!
Sincere thanks to those parents who have paid
their accounts in full or who pay on time. I often
wonder how parents who can afford to pay but who
don’t, sleep at night, when they know they are
‘stealing’ from the parents who pay their fees—
sometimes with difficulty BUT THEY PAY.

5 a-side-inter-school Soccer Tournament
The tournament was completed just prior to the start of the exams and was held over a period of 5 Friday
afternoons between 3 pm and 6 pm. It was held on our brand new Soccer Astro [again made possible due
to 2012s raffle]. Participating schools were Bergvliet High, Heathfield High, WBHS, Reddam and Fishhoek
High. In the final NH lost on penalties to BHS. Well done Bergvliet High!!!! I wish to commend our coach,
Courtney Williams in Grade 12 for ensuring that our boys remained competitive throughout the tournament
and, as a result, made the final! It is no mean feat. Special mention must be made of Adam Beck, our
goalie, who is still only in Grade 8. Thanks to Mr Holland, Ms Daniels, Mr Jakoet and Ms Pearson for arranging
the event.

NORMIES WP [at last]
We have ordered our Toyota Quantum at a cost of R 396 000. It comes fitted with a tow bar as well. The branding
has been sponsored by Market Toyota Tokai [thank you Aishah Coetzee and Mrs Dien, one of our grade 10
parents, who assisted us to broker the deal]. We get delivery early in July. It will assist us to start cutting back on
expenses incurred outsourcing transport. Each seat is fitted with a seat-belt and all drivers of the vehicle will
have a PDP. Without our community’s support this would not have been possible. On behalf of the SGB and
school staff, I wish to thank the parents and pupils who made this dream become a reality!!
ACADEMIC MEETINGS QUESTION
Grade 10, 11 and 12 meetings will be held on 16 July between
5 pm and 8:30 pm. The meetings are by invitation
only. Parents whose children have performed poorly will get
a letter inside the report envelope. Attendance is compulsory
as education is a partnership.
Grade 8 and 9 meetings will be held on Tuesday 23 July.
Parents who are not invited may make private appointments
with teachers by emailing the relevant teacher.
Boys and girls, are there influences around you that are
delaying your dream of success? Are you influenced [or
allowing yourself to be influenced] by someone or something
that is impacting negatively on your academic
achievement? We call those people ‘zombie voels’ because
they drain you of everything that has been ordained
for your life. Is it not time to take a bold step and
make a change? Just a question.
REJECT MEDIOCRITY AND EMBRACE EXCELLENCE.
COMMUNITIES. WE ARE PROUD OF YOU. IT TAKES A LOT OF GUTS TO DO WHAT YOU DID. CITIZENS UNITE!!!
It has been a very busy term once more with the NORMIES BRAND flying high and being represented all
over. The exam results in Mathematics and English, especially in Grades 8, 9, 10 and 11 are a massive concern
for me. A strategy will have to become a full-blown assault. For example, one child in the senior grades,
achieved 2 % for Mathematics and some could not even achieve 10 %. I will no longer allow those pupils to
do Mathematics. They will move to Mathematical Literacy. What puzzles me is that the Grade 12s continue to
shine bright in their corner—in ALL subjects! It’s time to sit down and make decisions around the issue of
Maths with some of our pupils [and a couple of our teachers too!].
Special thanks to my Deputy, Ms Shandre Otto, who has been an amazing source of support again this term.
We are very fortunate to have a Deputy Principal of her calibre working at the school. Please take time to
acknowledge that. The Staff and I certainly do. Thanks also to the SGB for
their immense support. They serve you well parents.
I wish to take the opportunity to wish the pupils well on their well earned holidays.
May they be kept safe and return ready to face the challenges of Term
3. We start with Day 5. NO EXCUSES for bringing the wrong books!
Kind regards
