KAR 147 - The ultimate backcountry ski
Whether you live close to a city park or by the mountains, OAC KAR gives you the possibility
to hike, climb, ski and enjoy the snow. Forget all the hard gear - Ski simply! Kar is
our new concept for BC touring.
OAC KAR 147 is a backcountry ski which combines a Nordic BC ski, a telemark/
touring ski and a snowshoe. A relatively short and wide ski is elastic and lightweight,
due to the unique Braid box construction. The Braid box construction with the compression
resistant elastic foam core gives the maximal strength and maximal flexibility
to the ski. No matter what kind of snow you are skiing, the tip of the ski floats on top
of the snow. At the very same time KAR has good edge control, even in hard packed
snow. The short and wide ski is super agile which allows you to have quick and easy
turns even in the gnarliest bushes and forests.
The KAR has an integrated skin, which is recessed to the base. Because of the
skin’s shape & the Swiss made Mix quality skin we use, the ski is competent even for
freeride skiing at any slope you find. If you like bit smaller dose of adrenalin, you can
slower the speed by leaning back and taking the ski of from the fall line. This makes
backcountry access possible also for beginners & recreational skiers. By having the
recessed, permanent skins you can forget grip wax problems and hassle with packing
the skins. Skiing uphill with Kar’s is easy!
Assembled with our X-Trace PIVOT binding, it is easy to use with almost any shoes
available. Just step out your door, grab your Kar’s and enjoy the ride!

XCD, Cross country - downhill
The very first ski of OAC Backcountry ski collection is derived from one of our own
favorite BC touring ski. The way we see it, such a ski needs to be easy, light and agile
when you face your backcountry challenges.
XCD works on all terrains. It is smooth while skiing on a flat terrain also with heavy
loads in the sledge. Due to its construction, XCD is easy to ski downhill even in the
forest. Even though it is a short and rather thin BC ski, the tip will float in powder,
still giving you good support on hard packed snow. We have designed the skin area
as small as possible, still giving the needed grip for diagonal skiing. This skin solution
beats the original kick-wax skis on all conditions.
XCD works well, not only with touring enthusiasts and explorers, but with kite skiers,
winter fishermen, and Sunday skiers in the local parks. XCD suits well all family
members, as one length covers all user weights (adults).

The earliest written records of skiing (in Chinese
histories) refer to skiers hunting in the Altai. Skiing’s
place of origin is still a mystery but the Altai/
Lake Baikal region is considered one of the likely
places where skis were first used.
To this day many of the indigenous population still
use skis for transport, hunting and fun. These skiers
are the inspiration for Altai Skis.
Altai Skis is the founder of the original sliding
snowshoe - The Hok. Hok is a skishoe to be used
whenever and wherever there is snow. With a partial
climbing skin integrated into the base, the ski
climbs with ease. The skin also makes the ski slower
and easier to control than traditional skis. The
skishoe’s short & wide design makes it incredibly
maneuverable, ideal for thick woods and variable
terrain, a truly all-purpose backcountry tool.
HOK - The original sliding snowshoe
The Hok is designed as an easy to use skishoe for the backcountry. Hok’s are a mix
between BC skis & snowshoes, making them a great tool for all backcountry activities.
Also professional workers like these “sliding snowshoes”.
Its short wide dimensions make the ski incredibly maneuverable, and the integrated
climbing skin gives the Hok great traction for climbing. The right balance of
running base and skin material makes the ski’s downhill speed manageable and easy
to control. Bridging cross-country skis and snowshoes, the Hok combines the maneuverability
and ease of use found in snowshoes with the ski’s efficiency of sliding
forward rather than lifting and stepping with each stride.
The Hok features a synthetic climbing skin integrated into the base of the ski, steel
edges for durability, and a light weight cap construction. In an effort to minimize our
carbon footprint, we use, a sustainable paulownia wood core reinforced with a combination
of organic natural fibers and fiberglass. Simple graphics and natural fibers
combine with design themes from the the Altai Mountains for a unique look.
The ski come with inserts matching the extended 75mm norm hole pattern. We recommend
the X-Trace PIVOT universal binding with HOKs. Also 75mm 3-pin bindings
are compatible. Adapter plate is needed with NNN BC and SNS BC bindings.
The Hok will be available in two sizes, 125 cm. and 145 cm. For skiers over 90kg,
that are fortunate enough to often find themselves in deep unconsolidated snow, the
145 cm would be a good choice. For children the HOK 125 with X-Trace KID is great
solution.
The name, ‘Hok’, is the Tuwa word for ski in the Altai Mountains. The Tuwas are the
smallest ethnic group in the area and the most dedicated skiers.

X-TRACE
Back in the day we started to think about a universal binding which would work easily
with most of the shoes, give good feel for skiing and be stable enough for telemarking
and Nordic ice skating. The X-Trace has now been in the market for five years and has
gained a strong position among backcountry bindings.
The X-Trace universal binding is adjustable to most boots with a flexible sole and
offers good control and flex for touring. X-Trace is made of high quality materials,
without any compromises.

A functional multi-purpose pole, telescopic all-around skipole and 120mm wide
powder basket are lightweight yet strong and extremely durable.
WAND
Wand is a functional multi-purpose pole. It is like at home in backcountry tours,
specially in long expeditions as well in Nordic ice skating trips. A 40mm long spike
is molded to the tip, which gives very good grip while skiing on ice terrain and allows
effective ice testing, while skating or skiing on ice. Our 120mm wide powder basket
is easy to assemble and take off. A comfortable cork handle with specially designed
strap works well with all gloves.
