homes. Groups could concentrate on
classic films or foreign films or comedies
or horror films. (Count me out
of the latter category. The last scary
movie I went to was “The Silence
of the Lambs,” which was, for me, a
mistake. I didn’t know what it was
about; I only knew Anthony Hopkins
was in it and I liked Anthony
Hopkins. That taught me to get
some idea of the content of a movie
When I go to my hairdresser we
like to be part of a movie group, now
Get together with others who share
your favorites and introduce yours
to others. Talk about wonderful
performances. Imagine yourself
sitting with a group of congenial
people talking about Meryl Streep,
Judy Garland, Spencer Tracy, James
Cagney, the Marx Brothers, Jimmy
Stewart, Myrna Loy. What about
animated films? Did you see “Up”?
Who was the best James Bond?
Talking about movies is a natural
icebreaker, the perfect way to make
new friends. And that’s what it’s all
about, “Alfie.”
