About The Program<br />

The two week CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAMME FOR SOCIAL SCIENCES ON RESEARCH<br />

METHODOLOGY & DATA ANLYSIS to be held from 6 May 2013 -18 May 2013 at BVIMR Campus at New<br />

Delhi, is designed to impart knowledge on Research Methodology in the context of qualitative and quantitative<br />

research along-with training in advanced statistical packages (including SPSS/STATA, SEM and EVIEWS) across<br />

the various fields of Social Sciences/Humanities.<br />

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROGRAM<br />

The program predominantly follows the Research Methodology Syllabus designed by the ICSSR which include<br />

extensive understanding of both qualitative and quantitative methods. However, it also aims at incorporating<br />

certain important features in order to cater to the growing needs of the young research scholars. Some of those<br />

features are:<br />

Qualitative and Quantitative research, epistemology, the science of research.<br />

Developing understanding to write for publishing papers in refereed journals and checking for plagiarism.<br />

Data Processing and analysis – techniques – how to read the data and how to interpret the data, etc.<br />

To provide conceptual knowledge of various univariate and multivariate techniques, and demonstrate the<br />

applications of the above mentioned techniques, through hands-on sessions with valid data sets, using<br />

SPSS software.<br />

To introduce the basic concepts related to SEM.<br />

To illustrate the basic applications of SEM using the AMOS software using hands on lab sessions with valid<br />

data sets<br />

This program is a capacity building programme especially for research scholars belonging to the marginalized<br />

sections. We therefore, propose to provide 70% of the seats for the applicants belonging to the SC / ST/ Muslim<br />

categories and women.<br />

ELIGIBILITY OF THE PARTICIPANTS AND APPLICATION PROCEDURE:<br />

Candidates who are Research Scholars in any branch of Social Sciences, humanities, economics, commerce,<br />

management and are employed full time in academic institutions are eligible to apply on the prescribed<br />

format enclosed to the Course Director – Dr. Meenakshi Gandhi with duly filled up registration form on or<br />

before 17 April 2013 . Registration form can also be downloaded from the University website www.bvimr.com .<br />

A soft copy of application duly filled in may be sent to the Course Director of the Workshop by e-mail at<br />

researchbvimr1@gmail.com / drmeenakshigandhi@gmail.com. The email application should be followed by<br />

hard copy of the application along with registration form. Preference will be given to ST/SC applicants, In case<br />

of nonavaiblity of SC/ST applicants general cateogry applicants will be alloted participation. Women<br />

candidates will be given special preference. In case of non availability of women candidates, male candidates<br />

shall be allotted participation.<br />

The duly filled in registration form must be accompanied with the following enclosures:<br />

1. A Bona fide Certificate from the University/Institute in which he/she has enrolled for Ph.D<br />

2. Certificate of employment from the Head of the institution.<br />

3. A synopsis of the applicant's Ph.D. and its current status report<br />

4. Community Certificates (in case of the SC and ST candidates);<br />

5. A brief write up about the reasons for his/her participation in the workshop;<br />

ABOUT ICSSR<br />

Indian Council of Social Science research (ICSSR) was established in the<br />

year of 1969 by the Government of India to promote research in social sciences<br />

in the country. The Council undertakes the review and works for the progress of social<br />

science research and give advice to its users; Sponsors social science research programmes<br />

and projects and administer grants to institutions and individuals for research in social sciences;<br />

Institutes and administers scholarships and fellowships for research in social sciences; Co-ordinates<br />

research activities and encourage progrmmes for interdisciplinary research; Organizes, sponsors, and<br />

finances seminars, workshops and study groups, develops and supports centers for documentation services<br />

and supply of data and Undertakes publication and assists publication of journals and books in social<br />

sciences.<br />

ABOUT BHARATI VIDYAPEETH DEEMED UNIVERSITY<br />

<strong>Bharati</strong> Vidyapeeth Deemed University was established by Dr. Patangrao Ji Kadam in 1996 in Pune, with a<br />

ACCOMMODATION & TRAVEL ALLOWANCE:<br />

Accommodation will be provided to the outstation participants. Travel allowance by shortest distance (bus or<br />

train fare) will be reimbursed to the outstation participants as per ICSSR guidelines. The participants shall be<br />

provided with food, accommodation, workshop kit and reading materials.<br />

BVIMR is located on a strategic location on Rohtak Road, well connected via road & metro, the nearest metro<br />

station Being 'Pachim Vihar East'. The weather in Delhi during the month of may shall be of hot Summers with<br />

average temperatures near 32 °C , Light cottons are the best wear for this weather.<br />
