Do you listen to reggaeton?
What do you like about it?
see story, page 26
“I am a big fan of reggae. But I think reggaeton is terrible
and shouldn’t even be a musical genre because it’s a disgrace
to real reggae.”
-sophomore Gus May
“I love reggae and the message it sends. It’s like the black
version of hippy music.”
-senior Dawnia Richards
“I listen to reggae music and I think it’s very good music. I
don’t really like English reggae, but I love reggaeton. The
lyrics just flow together with the
beat and it makes you want
to move. I don’t know
why some people hate it
so much.”
-freshman Tatiana
Lopez
“Yes, I listen to reggae
music because it
sounds good and it’s
fun to dance to. I like
to listen to Spanish
and English reggae.”
-senior Susana
Sagastizado
“I like to listen and
dance to reggae music.
It’s fun because sometimes there are festivals and they play
reggaeton, and I just love listening to it. Plus it’s in my
blood because I’m Caribbean.”
-freshman Aisha Michael
What is your favorite summer memory?
see story, page 19
“My favorite summer memory was celebrating my birthday
in July. When I woke up that morning, I began to
scream, ‘It’s my birthday!’ Everyone I knew called me
that day, and at night my family, along with two of
my best friends, came over to eat, give me gifts
and just have fun.”
-sophomore Taylor Green
“My favorite summer memory was the
day after school let out. I remember
waking up at five like I usually did,
but since there wasn’t any school, I
was able to go back to sleep. I was
able to do whatever I wanted, which
was a great relief after a long year.”
-freshman Nicholas Garrin
“My favorite summer memories are the
times I spend back home in the Philippines. I get a sense of comfort visiting my old
street and house where my cousins now live.”
-sophomore Jenimae Granados
“My favorite summer memory was working at the National Institute on Drug
Abuse. I conducted an independent project at the lab, where I gave cocaine injections
to rats and ran behavioral tests everyday. Although I worked seven days a
week, the experience was fun and educational.”
Do you think the morning-after pill should be sold
over the counter?
see story, page 15
“I do not think that the morning-after pill should be sold over the counter because
it will affect different people in different ways. If you’re sick, you don’t
know if the morning-after pill will make your symptoms worse.”
-sophomore Chenelle Morrow
“Although I believe in using condoms, accidents do happen. Making the
morning-after pill available over the counter could help limit the number of
abortions each year, as well as reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies.”
-sophomore Elissa Fischel
“The morning-after pill should be sold over the counter because if a person is
sexually active, they should have the opportunity to prevent pregnancy.”
What have you done in response to Hurricane Katrina?
see story, page 18
“I haven’t done anything for Hurricane Katrina. I question how responsible the government, evacuees and
organizations are with the money being donated. It seems like there has been little organization in the use of
donations and gifts of supplies. For example, when D.C. sent buses down to New Orleans, they were turned
away. People rush into things without completely thinking them out.”
-senior Philip Hoyle
“For Hurricane Katrina, some of my teammates and I stood at Four Corners collecting money for a family who
lost everything. It felt good being able to help someone in need.”
-junior Braulio Salas
“Personally, I have not made any donations to the Hurricane Katrina fund because I believe that most of the
money we donate goes to things that have nothing to do with helping the victims. Besides, America is a very
rich country, and a lot of our money is given to the government through taxes, and that is why we pay them.”
-freshman Sana Mirza
“Fall is a great season because the weather is so crisp and cool, and all the leaves are
beautiful colors. To me, fall means football, caramel apples, Halloween,
Homecoming and chilling outside with friends. The only downside to fall is that it’s
a sign that winter is coming.”
-senior Rose Feinberg
“My favorite thing about fall is eating
warm apple pie. The crisp fall air
makes the sweet pie even better.
The flaky crust, juicy apples and
cinammon zing are accentuated by the
season.”
-sophomore Andrew Kung
“My favorite thing about fall is the
weather. It’s cool, crisp and breezy.
You’re never covered in sweat or
freezing to death in the fall. Fall is
also nice because it leads up to the
holiday season.”
-sophomore Michael Curl
“There’s something about fall that makes me want to go back in time and just think
about my life; what I’ve done and what I’m going to do. It’s something about the
leaves changing colors and getting dressed up in all my different coats and hats and
gloves. All the best memories I’ve had have been in fall.”
