Before the destruction of the first Temple the Priests and the Prophet Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) and three of his associates hid the holiest 

vessels of the Temple. Two non-Biblical sources, 2 Maccabees and Parilipomena of Yirmeyahu, stated that the sacred objects from 

the Temple were hidden by Yirmeyahu before the destruction of Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar. The prophet Yirmeyahu was given 

explicit instructions by HaShem to go and acquire the antique priestly pot and hide it (Yirmeyahu 19:1, 43:9,10), because of the sins 

of King Shlomo (Solomon) marriage Tahpanhes. The message was that Mashiach's Kingdom will be set on this corner -stone and 

destroying the evil system that has existed since Babylon. 

For hundreds of years, legends, stories speculations have been heard from scholars, religious leaders, archeologists andeven 

Hollywood; asking where are the treasures of the Temple hidden? For decades great interest has existed among different individuals, 

to search again for the Ark of the Covenant which contains the two tablets of the testimony (Ten Commandments), Rod of Aaron, and 

the Earthen Vessel of Manna. 

The establishment of the Urim and Thummim 

In the days of King Messiah, when his kingdom is established and all Israel are gathered into it, the descent 

of all of them will be confirmed by him through the Holy Spirit which will rest upon him, as it is written, 

And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as 

gold and silver ( Mal. 3:3), And he will first purify the Children of Levi and will say: “This is of priestly 

descent, and this is of Levitic descent.” And he will reject those who are not descended of Israel, as it 

written, And the Tirshatha [governor] said to them that they should not eat the most holy things till there 

stood up a priest with Urim and Thummin (Ezra 2:63) From this you learn that the presumption of 

descent will be confirmed, and those with established descent will be announced by the Holy Spirit. And he 

will establish the descent not from Israel [in general] but from each tribe and tribe. For he will announce 

that this one is from such and such a tribe, and this one from such and such a tribe…. (Maimonides, Yad

Some said that this book of valuable knowledge is subject to the 

Mahdi’s appearance, who will come at the End of Time, and he 

will understand the knowledge of sifr and its secrets. This 

knowledge has existed since the time before books of the prophets.

Eliyahu will show his legitimacy by providing the evidence of the 

Vessel of Manna: 

Eliyahu brings forth the vessel of manna for the last generation. 

(Pereq. R. Yoshiyahu, BhM 6:115; Mekh. diR. Yishm'el, p. 80) 

Then the People of Israel will believe that Eliyahu is 

the Eliyahu promised to them, and the Mashiach 

introduced by him is the true Mashiach of Israel. (The

The Mahdi is totally submissive to Allah. He resembles the 

Prophet in terms of manners. (Barzanji, Al-Isha'ah, p. 163) 

A son of mine will appear, whose manners will be just as mine. (al- 

Muttaqi al-Hindi, Al-Burhan fi Alamat al-Mahdi,, p. 21) 




Moses said to Aaron, “Take the Earthen Vessel and add a full omer of 

manna into it; place it before HaShem for a safekeeping for your 

generation (Shemot 16:33).” 

Elijah of Gilead 

And Elijah the Tishbite, [country dweller] who was of the settlers of 

Gilead, [Testi-mony of the Bride-Stone]. (I Kings 17:1) 

Elijah in the appearance of an Arab. 

Elijah often elected to appear in the appearance of an Arab or, more 

exactly, in that of an Arab of the desert. (Jewish Encyclopedia - Arabia

Eliyahu will appear at the last days 

Eliyahu will appear on the last days, and either he or one of his 

descendants will wait, in the interior of a mountain before the coming 

of the Messiah. (In Islamic Literature & Jewish Encyclopedia) 

“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the 

coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And 

he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and 

the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come 

and strike the earth with a curse." – Malachi 4:5-6 

Eliyahu as the Guardian 

Eliyahu is the guardian of the sea, Eliyahu is the guardian of the desert. 

(I Kings xix. 4, Ta'rikh Muntaḥab, Jewish Encyclopedia.)

His compassion for the poor is one of the signs of the Mahdi.

He has great compassion for the wronged. (Nu’aym ibn Hammad, 

vr. 50b; Al-Uqayli, An-Najmu al-Saqib, ) 

The Mahdi will defend the truth against the oppressors. Indeed, 

he will extract the molar tooth (anything unjustly held) of a (cruel) 

person and restore it to its rightful owner. (Al-Uqayli, Al-Najmu al- 

Saqib) 




Eliyahu as the Guardian of the Covenant 

Eliyahu, the Guardian of the Covenant and the Covenant of 

Circumcision. (Ḳid. 70a, Shulḥan 'Aruk, Milah, 265, 11; comp. Kol Bo, 

73) 

Eliyahu and the Sanhedrin: 

Eliyahu will present himself before a duly-ordained Sanhedrin when 

He announces the coming of the King Mashiach Ben-David.

Eliyahu the forerunner of Mashiach: 

Eliyahu the precursor of Mashiach Ben-David. (Tanna debe Eliyahu Zuṭa

Eliyahu zealous in the cause of G-d and preparing the road for arrival 

of the King Mashiach Ben-David. (Tanna debe Eliyahu Zuṭa viii) 

Eliyahu will introduce the true Mashiach identity. (T’fllat R. Shim’on ben 

Yohai, BhM 2:125) 

Eliyahu and Tikkun Olam: 

Eliyahu is the helper of Distress. He has compassion for the infants, 

poor, widows, and the sick and establish Tikkun Olam 

(Pesiḳ., ed. Buber, x. 92b; see Akiba ben Joseph in Legend)

He assumes all duties and helps the weak and lowly. (Muhyiddin 

ibn al-Arabi Futuhat al-Makkiye, 366, vol. 3, p. 327- 28) 

Hussain was asked: “By what signs will the Mahdi be known?” He 

replied: “By his ease of heart and dignity, by his knowing what is 

lawful and what is unlawful.”

The lord of believers (saas) says: "... THE IMAM [HAZRAT 

MAHDI (AS)] WILL BETTER KNOW WHAT IS TRUE 

AND WHAT IS FALSE. HE WILL DO AWAY WITH 

FALSE LAWS. HE [HAZRAT MAHDI (AS)] WILL 

PREVENT DANGERS AND NEUTRALIZE YOUR 

UNJUST RULERS AND WILL CLEANSE THE WORLD 

OF THOSE WHO ARE NOT HONEST. HE WILL ACT 

WITH EQUITY AND BUILD A MERCIFUL SCALE OF 

JUSTICE AMONG YOU... If you wait, you will be rewarded 

and YOU WILL REALIZE THAT IS DEFINITELY THE 

ONE WHO WILL SALVAGE YOUR RIGHTS and take 

revenge for the injustice inflicted upon you. I swear by the 

name of Allah, that Allah is with the truly devout and those 

who do good.”

He is called the Mahdi because he has a secret power that 

cannot be known by anyone.

Eliyahu the Interpreter of the Torah and mitzvot: 

Eliyahu will stand as the Interpreter of the Torah. 

(Zohar, Ẓaw, iii. 27; Yemenite Midrash, pp. 349-50; Men. 45b; Ab. R. N. xxxiv.; Num. 

R. iii., near the end; compare also Jew. Encyc. i. 637a; Tosefot Yom Tov, Eduyot; 

Gilyonei HaShas, Shabbat 108a) 

Eliyahu will have to settle all legal difficulties and decide vexed 

questions of ritual concerning which authors entertain contradictory 

views. All difference of opinion must be removed from the path of the 

King Mashiach Ben-David.

"Till Elijah comes" is a phrase which is in use among the Jews to 

express postponement forever, like _ad Kalendas Graecas_. It is 

applied to questions that would take Elijah to settle, which, it is 

believed, he will not appear to do till doomsday. (Bava Metzia, fol. 37, col. 

2.) 

Eliyahu will reveal the secrets and mysteries: 

Eliyahu will explain the true meaning of the Meal Offering. 

Eliyahu will explain the true meaning of the resurrection. 

Eliyahu will reveal the secret of redemption. 

Eliyahu will reveal the Halackot, Torah, Mitzvot and will teach deep

He [the Mahdi] will practice the religion just as [it was 

practiced] in the time of Our Prophet. He will eliminate the sects 

from the face of Earth. No sect, except for the original true 

religion, will remain.

The Mahdi is from us, from the Ahl al-bayt. Allah will 

perfect* him in a night. (* i.e., will forgive him, or give him 

success and the inspiration of wisdom and guidance) (Sunan Ibn 

Majah, vol:10, Bab: 34, p.348) 

He will continue his (intellectual) struggle until all people return 

to Allah. (al-Haythami, Al-Qawl al-Mukhtasar, p. 23)

Eliyahu and Edom 

Eliyahu will expose the lies of Edom and the nations. (Yalqut Sim’oni par. 

143, to wa Yishla 33; Mid. Tanh. Mishpatim 18, end) 

Eliyahu will gather the 10 lost tribes of Israel: 

Eliyahu will introduce and restore the ten lost tribes of Israel. 

(Ecclus. [Sirach] xlviii. 10, 11) 

Purification of the Temple Mount and the Golden Gate: 

The Prince will come to the Golden Gate and Open it at the New Moon. 

(Ezekiel 44:3; 45; 46) 

Eliyahu brings the Message of Repentance: 

Eliyahu will appear in Jerusalem and induce Israel to repent when the 

Mashiach Ben-David is about to come. (Pirqe R. Eliezer, ch. 43; Ecc. 

Rab. 4:1) 

The Seven Miracles of Eliyahu: 

1. Eliyahu will bring evidence of the Prophet Moses and 

the generations of the wilderness to life.

He will bring forth the Holy Land’s treasures, the Ark of the 

Covenant, the table of the people of Israel, the tablets of the 

[Ten] Commandments, the jacket of Prophet Adam (as), the staff 

of Prophet Sulayman’s (as) pulpit, and the milk-white gloves sent 

by Allah to the People of Israel. (al-Haythami, Al-Qawl al- 

Mukhtasar, p. 33) 

He will bring the Ark (the chest containing sacred trusts) to light 

from a place called Antioch. (Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti, Al-Hawi li al- 

Fatawa, II. 82) 

He will bring forth the Ark of the Covenant from the cave of 

Antioch. (Nuàym ibn Hammad, Kitab al-Fitan) 

The Mahdi will bring forth the Ark of the Covenant from the 

cave of Antioch. (al-Haythami, Al-Qawl al-Mukhtasar, p. 54) 

Their Prophet said to them, 'The sign of his kingship is that 

the Ark will come to you, containing serenity from your 

Lord and certain relics left by the families of Musa and 

Harun. It will be borne by angels. There is a sign for you in 

that if you believe. (Qur'an, 2: 248) 

Their Prophet said to them, 'The sign of his kingship is that 

the Ark will come to you, containing serenity from your Lord 




2. Eliyahu will bring evidence of Korah and his band 

from out of the earth. 

3. Eliyahu will revive Mashiach Ben-Yosef, who was 

slain near by the Gate of Jerusalem. 

4. Eliyahu will reveal the three holy vessels of the 

Temple, 

o the Ark of the Covenant. 

o the Vessel of manna. 

o The Menorah with its seven lamps. 

o And the procedure of the sacred oil of anointing. 

5. Eliyahu will show and wave the scepter given him by 

G-d Almighty.

and certain relics left by the families of Musa and Harun. It 

will be borne by angels. There is a sign for you in that if you 

believe. (Qur'an, 2: 248) 

If he faces the mountains, he will destroy them by making a 

passage through them. (al-Haythami, Al-Qawl al-Mukhtasar, p. 39)

The Mahdi fears and respects Allah like the trembling of a bird’s 

wing. (Nuàym ibn Hammad, vr 91a) 




6. Eliyahu will grind the mountains of the Holy Land 

into powder like straw. 

7. Eliyahu will reveal to them the secret and mystery as 

it is written, This is the covenant that I will make with 

the House of Israel after those days, saith the L-rd, I 

will put My law in their inward parts, and in their 

heart I will write it, and I will be their G-d and they 

shall be my people. (Jer. 31:33).

The Bird of Heaven: 

The Haggadah calls Eliyahu "the bird of heaven", 

because like a bird he flies through the world and 

appears where a sudden divine interference is 

necessary. 

(Ps.viii. 9, Hebr., Midr. Teh. ad loc.; see also Ber. 4b; 

Targ. on Eccles. x. 20). 

Passover: Cup of Elijah 

The Cup of Elijah, filled with fresh wine of grape juice, 

is confirmation of the hope of Eliyahu’s arrival into the 

house. 

Since the Book of Prophets says that Eliyahu the 

Prophet is the forerunner of the arrival of the Messiah, 

opening the door for Elijah means that Hebrew people 

hope that Eliyahu will arrive to mark the coming of the 

Messiah and the ultimate redemption for the Hebrew 

people.
