The study <strong>in</strong>volved 5 patients rang<strong>in</strong>g from 25 to 70 years of age. The dose used ranged from 0.093 mg/kg<br />
to 9.33 mg/kg. All reported significant relief of pa<strong>in</strong> and wished to cont<strong>in</strong>ue the therapy. The average<br />
(NAS) score pre-application was 8.8. and post 1.6.<br />
The authors proposed that part of the effect of topical ketam<strong>in</strong>e might lie <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>terruption of<br />
afferent transmission via <strong>in</strong>teractions with local Na+-K+ channels that may reduce centrally<br />
mediated hyperexcitability.<br />
