have given direct evidences regarding <strong>the</strong> phase transiti<strong>on</strong><br />

mechanisms in <strong>the</strong>se crystals. Here <strong>the</strong> experimental<br />

results from c<strong>on</strong>ductivity and <strong>dielectric</strong> measurements<br />

c<strong>on</strong>clusively show that DLAS undergoes<br />

two phase transiti<strong>on</strong>s at _1.5° C and 191°C corresp<strong>on</strong>ding<br />

to <strong>the</strong> two transiti<strong>on</strong>s in LAS occurring at 10° C<br />

and 186.5°C. The transiti<strong>on</strong> at 10°C in LAS is a structural<br />

<strong>on</strong>e (accompanied by a unit cell doubling al<strong>on</strong>g<br />

<strong>the</strong> a-directi<strong>on</strong>) which has already been studied in detail<br />

[6,7]. On <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r hand no serious attempt has<br />

so far been made in studying <strong>the</strong> mechanism involved<br />

in <strong>the</strong> recently observed high temperature transiti<strong>on</strong><br />

in this crystal except that due to Syamaprasad and<br />

Vallabhan, who suggested from <strong>electrical</strong> c<strong>on</strong>ductivity<br />

and i<strong>on</strong>ic <strong>the</strong>rmo
