MIRACLE WEIGHT LOSS STORY
How one man transformed his life
It was around one year ago that the life of Younis Abdul Rashid had changed completely.
Younis is an ambulance driver at Royal Bahrain Hospital. He was well-liked by his friends and coworkers, had a good
sense of humor and was an all-around nice guy.
However, the only problem was that Younis was morbidly obese. Where the normal range was below 25, Younis’ BMI
was at 45 due to his astounding 128 kg weight. He was tired constantly, ill, unable to exercise and at risk for several
diseases.
How he reached this point is a mixture of unconscious lifestyle choices and genetic reasons. Ever since he joined Royal
Bahrain Hospital, he has been asking for recommendations on how to lose weight. Previously, he told the hospital, he
had tried many diets, regimes and exercise routines, several of them, but in the end, none of them worked. He’d lose
about five kilos before he’d plateau.
Younis found himself unable to exercise properly due to his
weight. He’d be out of breath easily, get exhausted very
quickly, and his limbs would ache more than they normally
should, endangering his knees.
When Royal Bahrain Hospital finally recruited a bariatric
surgeon, Dr. Stephen Angamuthu, Consultant General
Surgeon and Bariatric Surgeon, the management decided to
do something different: perform bariatric surgery on Younis
for free. No charges whatsoever.

Dr. Stephen himself sympathized with Younis and was more
than willing to agree to the management’s decision. “Here is
a story of a 42 years old gentleman, weighing 128 kg and a
BMI of 45. After checking him, I realized that he presented
progressive increase in weight and repeated failure to sustain
reduced weight by conservative methods. Additionally, he
started to experience back ache and knee joint pain and
altered Glucose tolerance test (sugar control). The patient

was constantly tired and suffered from breathing difficulty after minor work or exercise.”
“On April 4 th , he underwent lap-sleeve gastrectomy, which is a minimally invasive procedure, the surgery was so smooth
and successful, that he was walk around comfortably the next day. This procedure reduces the stomach to 25% of its
original size, giving him a chance to start over.”
Short of one year later, Younis has lost nearly 45 kilos, and pushed down his BMI to 29. He now walks to work every day,
is able to exercise regularly without suffering from knee pain or back ache. His blood sugar is normalized, with better
cholesterol, stable blood pressure, and no more breathing difficulties.

Hypnobirthing Antenatal Classes every Saturday
Dr. Kiran Bijlani *MBBS, MD, DGO+, Obstetrician & Gynecologist
at Royal Bahrain Hospital, has created classes in order to teach
mothers hypnobirthing. Hypnobirthing is essentially the use of
relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, and yoga-inspired
moves in order to achieve a smooth birth.
“In my years of experience in
birthing women, I have seen that
mothers who use the
hypnobirthing techniques during
labor find it easier to deliver the
baby. From my point of view,
there is less screaming, no
straining to push, the baby
practically slides out!”
The class runs every Saturday evening from 7:30pm to 8:30pm.

Royal Home Medical Care is RBH’s medical
delivery service. We deliver our health
services to people's homes all over Bahrain,
easing access to our excellent services.
Royal Home Medical Care provides a
number of services, including doctor's visit
for consultation and medical assessment,
nursing services for patient care and basic
treatment, laboratory sample collection,
pharmacy medicine delivery and refill
service, physiotherapy services for home
rehabilitation or exercise, overnight sleep
study, and senior care.
RBH’s New Project to be revealed in
the coming months.
Royal Bahrain Hospital plans to unveil a new
project soon that will improve our services and
bring us closer to everyone in the Kingdom of
Bahrain. Anticipate it soon!

Although we are a hospital and are in the middle of a serious business, we try to have fun when
we can to keep the RBH family happy. Here’s the top events of 2012
We continued our celebration by taking the entire
RBH family to Al-Bander for a day of sun, water
and fun contests!
We ended the year by having our in-house
Santa Claus pass out candies and bring
Christmas cheers to all RBH visitors!

Starting the year right, we celebrated our first
anniversary with a huge cake, lots of laughter
and happiness.
Nurses Day was an amazing show day organized
by the nurses with beautiful dances, fun fashion
show and hilarious skits!
