2013 Lions International
Youth Camp and Exchange
need host families
The Lions International Youth Camp and
Exchange (YCE) will need approx 5 to
6 host families for the summer of 2013
to provide accommodations for students
from all over the world.
Their ages are from 16 to 21 years and
they are looking to experience our way of
life for 2 weeks. Exchange students can be
moved to another host family if a short
stay is only available at the initial host
family. It’s sometimes easier if a young
person of approximately the same age is
available to “chum” around with but not
a necessity. Nothing special needs to be
planned by the host families, just the normal
day-to-day life. Going camping, local
ball game or to a social? Great take them
along. You never know they might have
something to tell you about their country!
There is a camp from August 5th
to 11th that all exchange students
will be attending at the Delta Waterfowl
Field Camp near Minnedosa where
we will have them come together as a
group.
We will be exposing them to some more
Canadian experiences at that time as well
as giving the host families a break as well
as having them tell each other about their
country and culture.
If a host family or anyone else would like
to volunteer as a supervisor and/or mentor
at the camp we will provide all meals and
accommodations for them for the week.
A camp leader is also required if anyone
has the time and desire to help organize
activities and the running of the camp.

Lions challenged to help
victims in Oklahoma
Deadly tornado kills over 20 people
and destroys community
As many of you know,
a tragic event occurred
in the United States
a few days ago. A deadly
tornado touched down
in the state of Oklahoma
killing over 20 people,
including children, as well
as destroying schools, a
hospital and many homes
in the town of Moore.
A donor in Vancouver,
Canada, was so moved
by the stories of individual
bravery and survival from
Oklahoma that he donated
US$1,000 to the
disaster relief fund at
Lions Clubs International
Foundation (LCIF) as a
challenge to other Lions
to match his donation. A
match does not need to
be the full $1,000, but
can be any amount - even
US$1. Through local
Lions efforts, this money
will be used for immediate
relief and long term reconstruction.

All
donations to the disaster
relief fund are Melvin
Jones Fellowship eligible.
Many other Lions
across the US and world
have also responded to
the devastation in Oklahoma.
A club in Michi-
gan had a club meeting
Tuesday night where over
US$3,000 was donated
with more on the way
from clubs across the
district. Districts in
Florida and Virginia are
sending truckloads of
relief supplies to the scene.
Donations have come in
from Ontario and Prince
Edward Island in Canada
and from many clubs in
the US.
Please be generous
in your donations to assist
disaster relief and reconstruction.
