The history of <strong>Australia</strong>n rock posters is also the story of the relationship between graphic<br />
design and <strong>Australia</strong>n popular music. Rock posters as an art form really evolved during the<br />
1960s. The earliest poster featured on these stamps, Masters Apprentices from 1969, is in<br />
the “psychedelic” style popular at the time. Several iconic posters are featured in the issue,<br />
including Sunbury Rock Festival (1972), Rolling Stones <strong>Australia</strong>n Tour (1973), Midnight Oil<br />
and the Angels/Sports/Paul Kelly (c.1979), Goanna’s Spirit of Place (1983), Mental<br />
as Anything (1990), Apollo Bay Music Festival (1999) and Magic Dirt (2002). Most of the<br />
recent poster art has been digitally produced, represented here by the Big Day Out (2003)<br />
tour poster.<br />
