HISTORY OF PROFESSIONAL EMPLOYMENT:
CURRENT: Professor and Chair, Department of Educational Leadership and Policies
(EDLP), University of South Carolina: Teaching areas: History and philosophy of
higher education, organization theory and behavior, leadership, adult and continuing
education curriculum, post secondary education governance and policy. Research areas:
History of education, adult/continuing education, student learning, and
organization/administration. Faculty chair for 14 Ph.D. students and committee member
on 24 committees..
2004-2006: Assoc. Professor (EDLP) and Coordinator, Graduate Certificate Program for
Technical and Community College Employees, University of South Carolina.
Administrative tasks included liaison with leadership teams of 16 South Carolina twoyear
colleges; curriculum planning; instructor scheduling; marketing; budget oversight.
1999-2004: Assoc. Professor (EDLP) and Director, Museum of Education, University of
South Carolina. Responsibilities included acquisitions, research access, lecture and
seminar series, research query response, exhibits, student educational research, catalog
development.
2004: Visiting faculty, University of Utah, Department of Educational Leadership and
Policy: Appointed winter, 2004; taught graduate students on SLC campus, summer,
2004.
1994-1999: Asst. Professor, Department of Educational Leadership & Policies,
University of South Carolina.
1988-94: Academic Director, Division of Continuing Education, University of Utah.
Management position involved administering programming of off-campus, summer,
contract, weekend, and distance education programs for non-credit, credit a

and/or degrees in various colleges. Responsibilities: Financial administration and
annual budgeting; supervision of 16 full time and additional part time employees;
oversight of student registration, course programming, marketing, instructor contracting
and college administration and faculty liaison. Also included initiation and oversight of
new programs: test preparation programs, legal continuing education, Executive MPA
and MBA programs, ESL programs, customer service training, computer training, and a
variety of short course initiatives.
1987-89: Program Manager, Division of Continuing Education, University of Utah.
1989-94: Adjunct teaching, University of Utah. Taught courses in the departments of
Communication and Educational Administration.
1985-87: Manager, American University, College of Criminal Justice, Outreach
Programs.
1980-84: Manager, University of Utah, Public Administration Education Programs.
Administered accreditation, admissions, student counseling, internships, placement, etc.
for ongoing public administration programs. Initiated new Executive MPA program.
