Description 

This course has been designed to fill the current needs of pediatricians, 

family practitioners and allied health professionals interested in the care 

of infants, children and adolescents. In its 41st consecutive year, Pediatric 

Trends is designed to review recent advances in biomedical and behavioral 

sciences, which will have an impact upon the health and medical care 

of children from fetal life through adolescence. Combining lectures in 

pediatric science, clinical demonstrations, conferences and symposia, a 

problem-oriented approach is emphasized. 

Who Should Attend 

This activity is intended for pediatricians, family practitioners, physician 

assistants, pediatric nurse practitioners and other allied health 

professionals interested in the care of infants, children and adolescents. 

Objectives 

After attending this activity, the participant will demonstrate the ability to: 

• Evaluate and manage closed head injuries 

• Discuss new findings of neonatal jaundice and the aftermath of 

isoimmune jaundice 

• Determine when to manage or refer children with pigmented nevi 

• Identify and manage movement disorders in children 

• Apply the new guidelines for cardiovascular health and risk reduction 

in children and adolescents 

• Discuss new findings and management of sickle cell trait 

Accreditation Statement 

The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is accredited by the 

Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide 

continuing medical education for physicians. 

Credit Designation Statement 

The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine designates this live activity 

for a maximum of 36.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should 

claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation 

in the activity. 

Other Credit 

Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of 

Family Physicians. Determination of credit is pending. 

This continuing medical education activity has been reviewed by the 

American Academy of Pediatrics and is acceptable for a maximum of 36.0 

AAP credits. These credits can be applied toward the AAP CME/CPD 

Award available to Fellows and Candidate Members of the American 

Academy of Pediatrics. 

American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) accepts AMA PRA 

Category 1 Credit TM from organizations accredited by the ACCME. 

American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) accepts AMA PRA 

Category 1 Credit TM from organizations accredited by the ACCME. 

American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) accepts certificates 

of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 

1 Credit TM from organizations accredited by the ACCME. Physician 

assistants may receive a maximum of 36.0 hours of Category 1 credit for 

completing this program. 

The Johns Hopkins University has approved this activity for 36.0 contact 

hours for non-physicians.

transportation for attendees staying at conference headquarters hotel 

will be provided. Johns Hopkins is smoke-free.

The Johns Hopkins University reserves the right to cancel or postpone 

any activity due to unforeseen circumstances. In this event, the University 

will refund the registration fee but is not responsible for travel expenses. 

Additionally, we reserve the right to change the venue to a comparable venue. 

Under such circumstances registrants will be notified as soon as possible. 

Late Fee and Refund Policy 

A $50 late fee applies to registrations received after 5:00 p.m. EST on 

April 9, 2013. A handling fee of $50 will be deducted for cancellation. 

Refund requests must be received by fax or mail by April 9, 2013. No 

refunds will be made thereafter. Transfer of registration to another Johns 

Hopkins conference in lieu of cancellation is not possible.

Evaluation 

A form will be available to attendees to evaluate each session and each 

speaker’s presentation, as well as to identify future educational needs. 

Outcomes Survey 

A survey will be sent to all physician attendees within three months post 

activity to assist us in determining what impact this activity had on the 

attendee’s practice.
