2 OMAN OMAN DAILY Observer THURSDAY, MARCH 24, 2011 HM audience to GCC Secretary-General, UK minister and Spanish ambassador HIS Majesty Sultan Qaboos gave an audience to British Minister of State for International Development Alan Duncan (above) and Spanish Ambassador Jose Luis Rosello in Muscat yesterday. — Photos by Mohammed Mustafa MUSCAT — His Majesty Sultan Qaboos gave an audience at Bait Al Barakah yesterday evening to Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid al Zayani, appointed Secretary- General of the GCC to greet His Majesty on the occasion of him being appointed as a new GCC Secretary-General. During the audience, His Majesty the Sultan welcomed the Secretary-General, wishing him success in his new tour of duty. The guest expressed his thanks and appreciation for His Majesty the Sultan's permanent support to the GCC march to serve the interests of GCC peoples. The audience was attended by Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdallah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, and the ambassador of Bahrain to the Sultanate. His Majesty Sultan Qaboos also gave an audience at Bait Al Barakah yesterday to Alan Duncan, British Minister of State for International Development, who is currently visiting the Sultanate. The audience discussed aspects of the existing bilateral cooperation between the Sultanate and the UK in various spheres to serve the common interests of the Omani and British peoples. The audience was attended by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Secretary-General of the Foreign Ministry and Dr Noel Joseph Guckian, the UK Ambassador to the Sultanate. His Majesty Sultan Qaboos also received a written message from King Juan Carlos of Spain relating to aspects of the existing co-operation between the two countries in the light of the good relations binding the two countries and matters of common concern. The message was handed over by Jose Luis Rosello, Am- bassador of Spain to the Sultanate when His Majesty the Sultan gave an audience to him at Bait Al Barakah here yesterday evening. The audience was attended by Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdallah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs. — ONA Majlis Ash’shura holds committee meeting MUSCAT — Majlis Ash'shura's Health and Social Affairs Committee yesterday held its second regular meeting of the fourth annual session 2010-2011 for the sixth term of the Majlis under the chairmanship of Ali bin Sulaiman al Shibli, Head of the Committee. During the meeting, the committee approved minutes of its previous meeting and reviewed its study on evaluating the experience of Al Wafa social centres in the Sultanate, their situations from all aspects and putting forward proposals and solutions for the problems and difficulties facing these centres. The committee also decided to conduct a study on marriage fund. — ONA

Co-operation between GCC states discussed MUSCAT — Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdallah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, received in his office here yesterday Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid al Zayani, the newly appointed Secretary-General of the GCC. The meeting exchanged views on enhancing the scope of co-operation between the GCC states and promoting joint work mechanisms to serve GCC goals. During the meeting, bin Alawi wished the new secretary-general success in his tour of duty. The meeting was attended by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al Busaidy, Secretary-General of the Foreign Ministry, Ahmed bin Yousuf al Harthy, Under-secretary of the Foreign Ministry for Diplomatic Affairs and a number of officials at the ministry. The meeting discussed a number of topics related to enhancing and promoting the existing bilateral co-operation between the Sultanate and the UK in various human and social development fields as well as promoting investment. The meeting was attended by Sultan bin Salim al Habsi, Under-Secretary of the Finance Ministry, Dr Shaikh Abdulmalik bin Abdullah al Hina'ei, Adviser of the Finance Ministry and Dr Noel Joseph Guckian, UK Ambassador to the Sultanate. Meanwhile, Shaikh Sa’ad bin Mohammed al Saadi, Commerce and Industry Minister received Alan Duncan at his office yesterday. The meeting discussed means of enhancing the bilateral trade relations. The workshop aims at training pharmacists working in the field of drug registration to review the latest technical and procedural developments related to documents and requirements for drug registration and how to assess these requirements in line with what is followed by international drug control authorities to achieve the main goal of the national drug policy to ensure that the patient receives safe, effective and affordable drugs of good quality. Speakers from the European Union and the UK as well as 30 pharmacists are taking part in this workshop. — ONA InterContinental Muscat to take part in ‘Earth Hour’ MUSCAT — InterContinental Muscat will join millions of people in cities across the planet to switch off their lights for one hour on Saturday March 26 at 8.30 pm.
