Corvette Tire Pressure Monitoring System
If you are experiencing problems with your Corvette TPMS on your C5, here is
something to try before you take it to the dealership.
There are a couple of items to note about the TPMS. First of all, the sensors are
not the same for all years, 1997-2000 and 2001-2004 take different sensors.
Also, these sensors contain batteries that seem to have a life span of about 5
years. The sensors cost about $90 to $140 to replace (not including tire dismount
and reinstallation) depending on the year.
The TPMS interfaces with the DIC (Drive Information Center). Once the program
mode is accessed through the DIC, each sensor’s unique identification code can
be programmed into the receiver’s memory. Each sensor must transmit the
unique code in the proper sequence. A magnet must be held close to the sensor
in order to force the sensor to transmit the identification code. The DIC will
display a message as each sensor is programmed, and when to proceed to the
next sensor for programming. The receiver also sends a message to sound the
horn one time, indicating the sensor properly transmitted the identification code.
When the receiver learns the first sensors identification code, all previously
stored codes are erased from the receiver’s memory.
If your TPMS system is not functioning or giving ‘false’ readings, it can be
reprogrammed by following these steps. You will require a J-41760 TPMS
Programming Tool, basically a circular magnet the goes over the valve stem
(Schrader Style) on the wheel.
Note: The vehicle has to be stationary for at least two minutes before attempting
to program the TPMS.
Step One: Turn the ignition ‘On’. (Do not start the car)
Step Two: Clear any warning messages from the DIC by pressing the
RESET button.
Step Three: Press the OPTIONS button on the DIC until the ‘Blank Page” is
displayed.
Step Four: Press and hold the RESET button for about 3 seconds. Press the
OPTIONS button again until ‘TIRE TRAINING’ appears.
Step Five: Press the RESET button again until ‘LEARN L FRONT TIRE’
message appears in order to begin the programming sequence.
Step Six: Install the J-41760 Tire Pressure Programming Tool over the left
front (LF) valve stem. The horn will sound, indicating that the LF
