FROM THE EDITOR
It has been a busy month for the club, the board and the Tahoe
committee. There are some really great things happening right now
and in the coming months. Thanks to Ken and Marcia Burg for the
great dinner run in May and the excellent dinner fun hosted by Bruce
and Ruth Looney in June. We look forward to what Frank and Janie
Stafford have put together for us in July. There is nothing more
awesome then to see a line of Corvettes lined up on the freeway or
winding around a mountain road headed for parts unknown. Have
you noticed the looks on the people’s faces that see this wonder
coming at them? It’s the look on the faces of the children that I
love…it was that look that I had many, many years ago…I knew when
I was about 9 that I would have one of those cars someday. And true
to my belief, if you want something bad enough, work hard enough,
and are willing to pay the price of attaining it, you will get it.
There have been no responses to articles to be sent to me for
publication, so I will keep this newsletter formatted as it is, short, with
enough information to keep us all up to speed around activities and
events in the months to come. You can always view pictures on the
website. My hope is that you all enjoy this each month and get the
information you need to keep you informed and interested.

CORVETTE FACTS
Only the driver’s side vent on the 1964 Corvette is functional.
While the 427 was developed first, the 396 went into the Corvette, Chevrolet and
Chevelle in 1965 due to a GM policy restricting them to less than 400 cubic
inches.
The 396ci 425hp engine lasted only one year in 1965.
The “GM Mark of Excellence” sticker appeared in one year only-1967.
Federal law mandated the removal of spinners from wheels in 1967, so the knock
off wheel of 1963-66 was replaced with a bolt on wheel.

I’ll bet you didn’t know this:
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
The original Corvette emblem was changed just hours before the car’s introduction at the New
York Motorama Show.
The original emblem, shown below, combining the checkered flag and the American flag, was
shipped to the New York Motorama on the original prototype Corvette show car. During the
show preparations, a member of the General Motors legal staff rejected the emblem design
noting that the American flag can not be used on a commercial product.
As a result, a redesign utilizing the Chevrolet “bow tie” insignia and French fleur-de-lis was
quickly created and two new emblems displaying the now familiar Corvette logo were shipped to
New York overnight and installed just hours before the show opening.
Sorry for the reflection: the emblem was under glass, as a result, glare. This information is
taken from a plaque at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

From 1953 to the present:
Ruth and I went to the INDY 500 this year and they had, as they always do, a Corvette Pace
Car Reunion. I have sent the pictures to our webmaster Al, but I thought I would share a picture
I took in the garage area of one getting fueled the morning prior to the race.
As you can see, she’s sitting next to pump #6 which happens to pump 112 octane leaded racing
fuel.

GENERAL MEETING MINUTES
May 25, 2006
CALL TO ORDER: Meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm by Vice President Rick
Hawkins. Board Members present were Billie Talley, Lloyd Cox, Al Hall, Don Krikorian,
and Lee Delap.
MEMBERSHIP: Rick Hawkins introduced the following guests: Chuck and Gerri Ware
– 2000 red coupe, Jay and Diane Weed – 2006 monterey red coupe, and Adam Knott –
2003 yellow Z06 and 2006 yellow Z06.
Al Hall presented Elizabeth Mitchell with a new membership package.
SECRETARY’S REPORT: Allen Teixeira made a motion and Angie DiLiddo seconded
to approve the minutes from the April 27, 2006 meeting. Minutes approved.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Lloyd Cox reported on the account activity which is on file
to be reviewed by members only.
Lloyd also reported that he had the over-payment made to Rene Emilio, entertainer for
our Christmas party last year, straightened out and it was deducted from his deposit this
year. Billie Talley made the motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report. Lee Delap
seconded. Motion passed.
COMMUNICATIONS: Don Krikorian is working diligently to get the newsletter out
sooner but he needs our help. Anyone having technical knowledge, stories, mystery
dinner runs, or events to put in the newsletter should turn it in as soon as possible.
WEBMASTER: Al Hall reported that he has changed the front page on our website.
He also made some other changes to the website. Al also reported 2500 visitors
coming from the United States, Germany and Canada, being the top three countries,
and California, Washington, and Florida, the top three states.
Allen Teixeira commented that our website is probably the biggest attraction for
Corvettes of Fresno. Al, we appreciate the professionalism that you have brought to our
website. Thank you for your never-ending efforts.

ACTIVITIES, Past: There were lots of beautiful Corvettes in the Clovis parade. All who
participated were invited to a barbeque at Dr. Vette’s home afterward.
Ken and Marcia Burg had a mystery dinner run on May 6, 2006. We met at Willow and
Shepherd. We had a fun ride thru some winding roads to Auberry and back to Fresno.
We had dinner at B C’s Pizza. Everyone enjoyed the camaraderie.
Al and Maria Hall had 14 gorgeous Corvettes participate in the Hanford Home Coming
parade. Al had DVDs for those who wanted one.
ACTIVITIES, Future: Please refer to the Calendar of Events in the club newsletter or
on the Club website, www.corvettesoffresno.com for more details and up to date
information.
TAHOE REPORT: Chairperson Carol McCollum was not present. Patty McGraw
reported that only three people attended the last Tahoe meeting. More people need to
get involved. To date, 16 people have signed up for Tahoe Tour 38. The next meeting
will be announced at a later date.
OLD BUSINESS: Lee Delap, Frank and Janie Stafford are still working on our historian
plan.
NEW BUSINESS: Rick Hawkins passed around some sheets of paper for members to
note a couple of charities that they would like to see COF donate to.
NAME TAG DRAWING: Jerry Peloian won the $20. Next month we will start over at
$10.
RAFFLES: Billie Talley provided 10 personalized blankets for the prizes. Rick and
Melanie Sarkisian will coordinate prizes for June.
The meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m.

HANFORD’S HOMECOMING PARADE
With wind and rain on Friday, and a late Pacific storm hitting the
Valley on Sunday who could of predicted that Saturday, the day in
between, would be a picture perfect day for
14 beautiful C3, C4, C5, and C6 Corvettes to
parade through Hanford. Yes, Hanford was
treated to a snaking line of spotless,
twinkling in the sun, American Flag waving
Corvettes to celebrate Hanford’s 94 th annual
Homecoming Parade. After the parade the
club cars were parked on a reserved part of Irwin just south of the
famed Fox Theater. Club members were able to enjoy the remainder
of the parade and then were treated to homemade ice cream at
Superior Dairy. Club members pictured then took part in the
festivities in the downtown tree lined Civic Center Park to enjoy an
afternoon of small town hospitality.

making their small town annual
Homecoming Parade a success and for
displaying our beautiful cars for the
folks of Hanford to admire. A big CoF
thanks to Al & Maria Hall for making the
parade arrangements once again this
year for this annual event.
