Days 1-2: Depart USA Fly over the International Date Line on your way to Alice Springs, Australia. Day 3: Arrive Alice Springs Check into the Ibis Styles Hotel & spend the rest of the day exploring Alice Springs. Hotel Day 4: Alice Springs Meet your <strong>Contiki</strong> Team this afternoon & check out ‘The Alice’, famous for its remoteness, classic Aussie locals & Aboriginal art. Maybe hold a snake or lizard at our reptile park experience (if you’re game). Hotel (B,D) • Catch a look at the MacDonnell Ranges from ANZAC Hill • See the stunning Aboriginal site of Simpsons Gap • See the dry Todd River which hosts the annual Henley on Todd Regatta • Hands-on reptile park experience Day 5: Alice Springs to Kings Creek Station Gear up to try some ‘bush tucker’, meet members of the Walpiri Aboriginal community & learn to throw a boomerang! Later, it’s on to Kings Creek Station for our cool overnight – go local like Aussie ‘bushies’ & sleep under the stars in a comfy swag. Outback Special Stay (B,D) • Hike through Kings Canyon to the ‘Lost City’ & desert oasis ‘the Garden of Eden’ • kakadu national park Itinerary & Sightseeing Sleep under the stars in a traditional Aussie ‘swag’ M Camel ride through an outback station Day 6: Kings Creek Station to Uluru Australia’s pin-up icon is next as we make tracks to Uluru. Take a walk through its neighbor – the Olgas before cooking up an optional BBQ dinner. Lodge (B) • Wake up to the smell of fresh cooked bacon & eggs, just how you like it • See the 700 million year old Mt Conner & Lake Amadeus • Hike through ‘Kata-Tjuta’ (The Olgas) Day 7: Uluru Don’t miss the changing colors of an Uluru sunrise, then if you’re up for it, take a walk around ‘The Rock’ for some close up angles & hear stories of this amazing area & its Aboriginal rock art. Tonight, toast the trip & catch a legendary Uluru sunset while sipping a glass of bubbly. Lodge (B) • Visit the Uluru Cultural Centre • See Uluru at sunrise • Drink a toast to Uluru at sunset Day 8: Uluru to Alice Springs Back in Alice, maybe burn around the outback on a quad bike, or just sit pool side & work on your tan. Hotel (B) • Indulge in a yummy BBQ ‘Big Brekkie’ Day 9: Alice Springs to Tennant Creek Our ‘Top End’ adventure begins today – we’ll cross the Tropic of Capricorn to Aussie’s old mining town, Tennant Creek. Hotel (B,D) • Keep your eyes peeled for UFOs at Wycliffe Well • Visit the ‘Devil’s Marbles’ Day 10: Tennant Creek to Katherine Stop & ‘knock one back’ at the Territory’s oldest pub before making a splash in Mataranka Thermal Pools. Later, it’s on to the lush river town of Katherine & its famous gorge. Hotel (B) • Chill out & swim at the Mataranka thermal pools • Hear stories from ‘We of the Never Never’ Homestead, made famous by the book of the same name Day 11: Katherine to Kakadu National Park Hike, walk, or take an optional boat trip to see the massive Katherine Gorge up close. This afternoon we’ll hit the road to Kakadu National Park via Edith Falls for a swim. Hotel (B,D) • Visit Katherine Gorge • Cool off in Edith Falls before heading into World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park Day 12: Kakadu National Park Explore Kakadu today – its variety of gorgeous landscapes, wildlife & arguably Australia’s best Aboriginal rock art at Nourlangie Rock & Ubirr will seriously impress. Hotel (B) • See the Aboriginal rock art • Visit Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre M Scenic flight over this World Heritage Listed area Day 13: Kakadu to Darwin Take a cruise to spot some crocs & wildlife, before we head to Darwin! Get your bearings on a city tour & visit the local museum to learn about its historical past. With free time, spend the afternoon doing what you like – maybe take a sunset cruise (seasonal) or hit the shops. Hotel (B) • Keep your eyes peeled for crocs on a wildlife cruise • Guided city tour of Darwin • Visit the Darwin Museum Day 14: Darwin A swim in famous (& gorgeous) Florence Falls is a must in Litchfield National Park. Check out the incredible termite mounds found here too.
