Guide to Using the
Real-World Transparencies and Masters
The Real-World Transparencies and Masters activities
involve two parts—Student Recording Sheet and Real-
World Transparency. Each Student Recording Sheet has a
reading passage followed by a series of questions that can be
answered from information in the passage and/or on the
accompanying full-color transparency located at the back of
this book. The final questions on each master relate what
the mathematics students are learning to the topic of the
transparency.
Display the transparency on the overhead projector. Give
students a few minutes to comment on what they see or any
patterns they observe from the data presented. Then give
them copies of the Student Recording Sheet to read and
complete.
Sample answers for each master are printed on the back of
the master so that you can keep the master and answer key
together if the master is removed from this book.
When to Use Each of these transparencies has been
correlated to a lesson in Glencoe Algebra 1. You can use
the activity with that lesson or any lesson that follows
the recommended lesson. The activity can be used as an
introduction to the mathematical concept being presented
or as a follow-up activity when time permits.
