Mode city 2009
Buyers and Trends Addicts were out in force!
What the exhibitors thought…
Mode City: focused buyers and exhibitors
kept busy with new orders: the number
one global platform for lingerie and
beachwear professionals kept its promises
even, and especially, during this period of
economic crisis.
“The 2009 edition of Paris Mode City was a “fine vintage” for Seafolly (…) we made a number of new
contacts and, of course, were visited by many of our existing clients. We took lots of orders at the
stand, both French and International orders!”
Xavier Simonet – International Director, SEAFOLLY, Australia
“The show was very well organized (…) we managed to see all our clients and got new ones, which is
the whole point for us!”
Vanessa Cukic – Head of International Sales, MELISSA ODABASH, United Kingdom
“All our clients came and we finally succeeded in meeting department stores which we have been
trying to contact for several years. We attracted lots of Italian, Spanish and Greek companies and
found ourselves a little short of space, we certainly plan to increase our floor-area next year!”
Marie-Luce Piergigli – Associate Director, CARIOCA, France
“Saturday was a very good day, much better than last year. Sunday and Monday were a little slower
but we are satisfied with the show and it would have been a mistake not to take part!”
Francesco Macchi – Chief Executive Officer, DELMAR (Ritratti, Swan Original), Italy
“We had a good show: we are very satisfied with the orders taken and the calibre of visitors that we
received at the stand.”
Jean Stolz – Sales Director, ADOLF RIEDL Gmbh (Sunflair, Opera, Olympia, Sunmarin),
Germany

“We had an excellent show! We met lots of department stores and a good number of retailers from
Italy and Arab countries.”
Jean Pierre Tiba - Managing Director, JANINE ROBIN, France
“This show is still a very important event in the beachwear fashion sector (…).
Despite the global economic crisis, we were just as busy as last year. We attracted new clients
and confirmed almost all the clients gained at previous years’ shows.”
Alessandra Grassi – Marketing Director, EMAMO, Italy

Observation: the labels were there!
Companies reduced the size of teams sent and stayed for less time in Paris,
but Mode City’s figures for the number of labels who visited the show were
steady in comparison to last year.
> Stability of beachwear and lingerie retail labels
> Stability of department store labels
> Stability of mail-order labels
Mode City has gained in quality: 89% of visitors were sourcing decisionmakers
(as opposed to 63% in 2008).
With 67% international buyers, MODE CITY has once again confirmed its position as the
platform for exchange in the beachwear, intimates and wellbeing markets!
Origin of visitors:
Foreign: 67%
French: 33%
Little change in the TOP 10:
The list of top-ranked visitor countries remains unchanged. Only Belgium has fallen to 11th
position, leaving room for Switzerland to enter the top 10.
France - N°1
Italy - N°2
UK - N°3
Germany - N°4
Spain - N°5
N°6 - Hong Kong
N°7 - USA
N°8 - Russia
N°9 - Switzerland
N°10- Japan
Is 2009 an unusual year?
The slight decrease in overall visitor numbers can be explained by a decline in the number of
ready-to-wear brands who visited the show this year. In difficult economic circumstances, this
trend reflects a buying strategy that refocuses attention on core products. Risk-taking and
business development will have to wait for the recovery!
