Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) is a workshop focused on the learning of outdoor skills – skills usually associated with
hunting and fishing, but useful for many outdoor pursuits. Designed primarily for women, it is an opportunity for anyone 18
years of age or older, and is for you if…
You have never tried these activities, but have hoped for an opportunity to learn,
You are a beginner who hopes to improve your skills,
You know how to do some of these activities, but would like to try your hand at some new ones,
You are just looking for the camaraderie of like-minded individuals.
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR) hosts workshops in partnership with
support and sponsorship provided by the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Foundation, Remington, Federal,
Outdoor Diva and the Kentucky Network of Outdoor Women (KNOW)

The KY Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) program has another fun filled year planned for 2012.

This Beyond BOW workshop is open to couples, singles and anyone 13 years or older (accompanied by
an adult) interested in learning the ins and outs of hunting and fishing in Kentucky
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
The intent of this workshop is to present from A to Z, as much as time allows, something about every
facet of the outdoor pursuits of hunting and fishing in Kentucky. Experienced hunters and anglers will
field any question you have, and get you on target to take up, or get more out of your interests, whether
in the woods, on the water, or both!
The HUNTING PORTION of this workshop is designed to provide a comprehensive and detailed
knowledge of nearly all hunting opportunities found in Kentucky. From squirrels, raccoons, rabbits,
dove, waterfowl, turkey, deer to elk, it will help you become “field-savvy”, and prepare you for what you
can expect to encounter regardless of which type of game you pursue. Game behavior and habitats will
be discussed. Where and how to set up and techniques to employ will be covered. Laws, equipment,
ethics, safety and tips for success and treatment of game for the table will all be incorporated.
If possible, simulated hunting opportunities may be offered. Time will be spent on the shotgun, rifle and
archery ranges.
The FISHING PORTION of this workshop is intended to familiarize you with as many different kinds of
angling, what’s available and in which waters, and some basic proven techniques for success. Various
types of equipment such as spinning and casting reels, rods and lures, will be displayed and how to use
them properly explained and demonstrated. How to equip a boat for safety and fishing use will be
presented. Preparing and cleaning fish will also be taught and information on creel limits and other
fishing regulations will be shared.
If possible, a simulated fishing opportunity may be offered. Time will be spent on the water if weather
permits.

REGISTRATION: One person per registration form however photocopies are accepted. Registration will
close Friday, January 27, 2012 or once capacity of 50 participants is met. Should the workshop
registration not meet the required number of participants (30) the event will be cancelled with full
reimbursement to registered participants.
ACCOMMODATIONS: All lodge rooms sleep up to four people (some up to six), all are non-smoking.
Should you have a particular person(s) you would like to room with please note that on your registration
form otherwise a roommate will be determined for you.
