Last Friday 21 st January the Melbourne office hosted its New Year Function at Crown Casino. The night
commenced with pre-dinner drinks on the balcony overlooking the Yarra River and a delightful speech
from our very own Nigel Loveday. Highlights of the night would have to be Kamal mistaking pears for
potatoes, Sudarshan’s groovy moves on the dance floor and Bianca’s break dancing showdown. All in all
an eventful evening which will not be forgotten. Sneak peak from the event below. Further photos from
the night can be found on the public drive saved under Melbourne Office New Year Function 2011.
Retail bookings
In an attempt to create further efficiencies within the retail department, staff (and friends) are asked email
their travel enquiries to info@tempoholidays.com. The approved staff travel privileges form needs to
accompany the request which includes an outline of the proposed travel itinerary. The retail team will
work on these requests at a time suitable for the business. Staff are reminded that amendments to the
itineraries can be made within reason. Any additional changes will be made once a deposit for the
booking has been received on file.
Australia Day Parade
contributed by Kamal Singh
Our Sikh community participated in the Australia Day parade last Wednesday. A team of 8 guys and girls
presented the cultural dance called “Bhangra”. Bhaṅgṛā is a form of dance and music that originated in
the Punjab region. Bhangra dance began as a folk dance conducted by Punjabi farmers to celebrate the
coming of the harvest season. The specific moves of Bhangra reflect the manner in which villagers
farmed their land. This hybrid dance became Bhangra. The folk dance has been popularised in the
western world by Punjabis and is seen in the West as an expression of South Asian culture as a whole.
Today, Bhangra dance survives in different forms and styles all over the globe – including pop music, film
soundtracks, collegiate competitions and cultural shows. We had a blast and had the opportunity to meet
different people and learn about their cultures.
