ScHEdULE OF EVENTS Friday, April 13 Advisory Board meeting 8 a.m.–12 p.m., Friendship Room of Lucille Stewart Beeson Law Library classroom Experience 10:30–11:45 a.m. Test your knowledge in the classroom against current law students. Professor Dayna Royal and Professor Joe Snoe invite you to sit in on their Civil Procedure II and Real Property classes. Civil Procedure meets in room 118 and Real Property meets in room 120. Advanced Trial Skills capstone Experience Friday afternoon/evening, Memory Leake Robinson Hall View students as they try a complex bank robbery case using high technology presentation methods. Trials will be judged by federal and state court judges and involve real FBI agents and DNA chemists. Kick-off Gathering 5:30 p.m., Century Restaurant and Bar at the historic Tutwiler Hotel Gather with fellow alumni to start off Reunion 2012 right. The Tutwiler is the preferred hotel for Reunion Weekend and is located 5.5 miles from Samford’s campus. Saturday, April 14 Golden Graduate Breakfast 9:30 a.m., Howard Room Alumni and their guests who graduated prior to 1972 are invited to join Dean John Carroll and other Cumberland School of Law faculty members for breakfast in Samford University’s recently renovated Howard Room in Ralph Beeson University Center. Special recognition will be given to the members of the Class of 1962. 50th Anniversary celebration 11 a.m.–3 p.m., Memory Leake Robinson Hall Join alumni and their families as we celebrate 50 years of Cumberland School of Law at Samford University! Show your spouse, children or guest where you sat in class, visit with your former professors, watch the trial team practice for competition, tell Dean Carroll what you did after law school, visit with Trial Journal and Law Review students, and reminisce with classmates. Meet distinguished alumni, judges and friends from all over the United States. Young and old will enjoy the activities, musical entertainment, good food and friends!
Lunch and Family Fun Brewer Plaza Food trucks will be located on Brewer Plaza featuring Mexican fare from Cantina, fresh local food from Shindigs and delectable cupcakes from Dreamcakes for you to purchase. Children will be entertained with face painting by law students, lawn games, bubbles, sidewalk chalk and fun photo opportunities. Photos 11 a.m.–3 p.m. A photo booth will be on site to capture the fun as you return to your law school stomping ground. Children may also have their pictures taken in the Carroll Moot Courtroom as they model formal judicial dress and sit on the bench. Library and Building Tours 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. See what’s new since your law school days, including the improved “old library,” the contemporary electronic courtroom that was built for the Advanced Trial Advocacy course, the Carroll Moot Courtroom and more. Then take a guided tour of Beeson Law Library, where you’ll see the latest research tools for students and practicing attorneys. Tours last 30 minutes and begin at the times above in room 133, located across from the angel patio. Samford University campus Tours 12 p.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. Take a tour of Samford’s beautiful campus. See the new basketball arena in the Pete Hanna Center, the state-of-the-art Jane Brock Recital Hall and the updated student center. Tours last one hour, and golf carts will leave from Brewer Plaza at the times listed above. Samford admission counselors will also be on hand to answer questions about Samford University. Former Faculty and Staff Reception 11 a.m.–12 p.m., Law Library Friendship Room Former and current faculty and staff members are invited to attend a reception in their honor as we recognize the special contributions they have made to the law school over the last 50 years. meet President Westmoreland, Rex, and your National Alumni Association President, Judge mann 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., Brewer Plaza Introduce yourself to Dr. Andrew Westmoreland, the 18th president of Samford University, and shake hands with Rex, Samford’s friendly bulldog mascot. Meet Judge Julian Mann III ’74, your national alumni president and chief judge of the administrative courts for the state of North Carolina. A Short History of cumberland School of Law by Professor Walthall 12:30 p.m., Carroll Moot Courtroom Relive orientation as Professor Howard Walthall presents his captivating account of the school’s history and its influential players over the years. A conversation with dean carroll 1 p.m., Carroll Moot Courtroom Join Dean Carroll as he reports on the current state of the law school and relays exciting plans for the future. He will also answer questions in this informal session. Are You Smarter than a Law Student? 2 p.m., Carroll Moot Courtroom Alumni and students go head-to-head in this all-out battle of the brains. Students from each year and representatives from each reunion class will compete to answer questions posed from faculty members in an attempt to see who is the smartest after all. Black Alumni Reception (details on the registration website) Join fellow alumni for the second annual reunion of the Cumberland Black Alumni Network. Meet current students and connect with alumni who are practicing all over the country. Hosted by the Cumberland Black Alumni Council and the Black Law Students Association [BLSA].
