thereby hindering vital cell division processes.
Wavelength (nm)
UV is a high-energy light with a wavelength of 100-400nm. The UV-C
spectrum with a wavelength of approx. 250 nm to 260 nm is particularly
effective for disinfection.
Safe disinfection
at 254 nm
UV disinfection has been proven
worldwide as the most important water
disinfection process. Bacteria, viruses,
yeast and parasites (for example,
cryptosporidium and giardia) are
effectively inactivated by using UV light.
There is no development of resistance
in UV disinfection as is increasingly
experienced in, for example, treatment
using antibiotics and also in
chlorination. There are no resultant
dangerous by-products (DBP) as is the
case with chemical disinfection.
Legionella pneumophila – WEDECO UV
protects against these extremely resistant
bacteria without creating any harmful biproducts
The medium pressure lamp emits a broad-brand spectrum
that for the most part lies outside the spectrum range
relevant to disinfection
Taking photo reactivation into
account = safe disinfection
Photo reactivation, meaning the self-repair of inactivated microorganisms,
can occur with many microorganisms making it
particularly important to consider this effect in the original
equipment design. This is done by choosing a safe UV dosage
(400 J/m 2 =40mJ/cm 2 =40.000 µWs/cm 2 ) that is confirmed by
microbiological tests (according to DVGW W-294 and/or Ö-Norm
M-5873-1). Leading UV specialists have repeatedly ascertained
that there is no difference in the safety of the disinfection
capabilities between low and medium pressure lamps when this
UV dose is applied.
UV Disinfection Systems
Spektron Series
The biodosimetrically tested UV systems from the Spektron product
range meet all the requirements of safe and environmentally friendly
water disinfection according to §11 of the German drinking water
regulation (TrinkwV 2001). The Spektron units are certified according
to Austrian ÖNORM (M 5873-1) and German DVGW (W 294-2)
directives. An European-wide CEN standard is in preparation.
The new Spektron range offers a wide array of uses from domestic
water supply to industrial uses to large water plants with a capacity
of more than one thousand m 3 /h. What makes them special is their
consistent optimisation of hydraulic characteristics with the use of
the unique CrossMix ® module. Electronic ballasts of the newest
generation in conjunction with our Spektrotherm ® lamp
technology allows minimising energy and lamp costs by up to 30%.
Improved Spektrotherm ® lamps offer today even better efficiency
and a very long lamp life.
The robust construction makes them certifiably usable in waters with
high humic contents or in environments with increased requirements
in terms of EMC protection. The new uv reactor construction ensures
simple installation within virtually any space limitation.
ADVANTAGES
• Safe disinfection through
biodosimetrically certified
systems
• No harmful by-products
(such as THM’s in chlorinating)
• Exceptionally low operating costs
through uniquely efficient
electricity flow and electronic
units of the newest generation
• Excellent EMC protection, exceeds
valid industry and household
standards
• Ongoing self-monitoring of UV
intensity, reactor temperatures
and water flow combined with a
high-performance memory and
analysis system
• Extremely low loss of pressure
• Variable installation positions for
easy integration into existing
pipeline systems
