"Tom was a great talker who enjoyed the company and friendship of people, but one of his greatest qualities was
that he listened. He listened to the problems of the players, young and old, of the officers, of the committee men
and selectors. Then the cigarette or pipe would come out of the mouth -- he would lean across the counter and,
when Tom spoke, we all listened.
"There was only one way to do things and that was Tom's way. It was the right way because he was always aware
of treating people equally and with respect and making sure that every solution was farr to everyone. Tom was
also a great spectator and fan of many sports but his greatest love, of course, was for the games of hurling and
football. On the sideline he played every ball, was always annoyed when the ball was sent wide at the near post,
and always wanted the ball played quickly.
"Tom "was" and always "will be" an institution in Kilmallock. He took great pride and joy in the achievements of
his children and grandchildren, and to his daughters Patricia and Geraldine and sons T.J. and Jim, I would like on
behalf of the club to offer our sincerest sympathy. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and we all have
our own special memories of him.
