BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL NOTES: The 25 th Infantry Division was
created from the Hawaiian Division ofthe United States Army, Its history includes
participation in World War II, the occupation ofJapan, the Korean War, the Vietnam
War, the GulfWar and the "Uphold Democracy" deployment in Haiti. The Division is
often referred to as "Tropic Lightning."
SUMMARY OF SUBJECT AND MATERIALS: The 25 th Infantry Division
Association ofthe United States Army has donated materials chiefly concerning the
Vietnam War, but also from World War II, the Korean War, and more recent activities of
the division. This particular donation contains a large collection ofWWII memorabilia
from the Division's deployment to Korea and the Philippines. A large portion ofthis
sub-collection includes photographs, newspapers, and personal letters.
