BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL NOTES: <strong>The</strong> 25 th Infantry Division was<br />
created from the Hawaiian Division ofthe United States Army, Its history includes<br />
participation in World War II, the occupation ofJapan, the Korean War, the Vietnam<br />
War, the GulfWar and the "Uphold Democracy" deployment in Haiti. <strong>The</strong> Division is<br />
often referred to as "Tropic Lightning."<br />
SUMMARY OF SUBJECT AND MATERIALS: <strong>The</strong> 25 th Infantry Division<br />
Association ofthe United States Army has donated materials chiefly concerning the<br />
Vietnam War, but also from World War II, the Korean War, and more recent activities of<br />
the division. This particular donation contains a large collection ofWWII memorabilia<br />
from the Division's deployment to Korea and the Philippines. A large portion ofthis<br />
sub-collection includes photographs, newspapers, and personal letters.<br />
