I-AWARD, POSTHUMOUS, OF THE DISTINGUISHED SERV­<br />

ICE CROSS. By direction of the President, under the provisions of<br />

Army Regulations 600-45 September 22, 1943 as amended, the Distinguished<br />

Service Cross is awarded posthumously by the Army Comm<strong>and</strong>er<br />

to the following named individual:<br />

T /Sgt. Frank B. Bujnowski, 32252715, Infantry, Company A, 398th<br />

Infantry Regiment, for extraordinary heroism in action on April 8,<br />

1945 in the vicinity of Odheim, Germany. After gaining the crest of<br />

a strategically important hill, Sergeant Bujnowski's platoon met severe<br />

enemy fire <strong>and</strong> was unable to advance. Determined to push forward,<br />

Sergeant Bujnowski moved to the front of his platoon, defying enemy<br />

fire,' <strong>and</strong> gave the order to attack. Firing his submachine gun, he destroyed<br />

one hostile machine gun nest. He killed two more Germans<br />

<strong>and</strong>, when his ammunition was exhausted, continued to fight with a<br />

wounded man's rifle. While charging another enemy emplacement,<br />

he was hit by a machine gun burst but continued moving forward until<br />

he was hit again <strong>and</strong> instantly killed. His daring, inspiring leadership<br />

<strong>and</strong> audacious action broke the back of the enemy resistance in the<br />
