The Business Need<br />

Gulf Business Machines (<strong>GBM</strong>) <strong>Qatar</strong>, has partnered with ICT<strong>Qatar</strong> (the<br />

Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology) to fulfill<br />

its nation-wide initiative of automating, measuring and controlling the flow<br />

of inbound foreign labor into the country. <strong>Qatar</strong>i businesses can go online<br />

to issue requests for foreign workforce. Requests are routed, reviewed,<br />

and verified by multiple systems in different ministries across the country.<br />

SMSes are sent as notifications to signal request state and closure.<br />

With a self-mandated imperative to provide a fully reliable, up and running<br />

system on deployment and production, <strong>GBM</strong> <strong>Qatar</strong> opted to outsource<br />

the testing of the solution from functional, performance and automation<br />

perspectives. The company scanned the market for best-in-class service<br />

provider with proficiency in using IBM testing tools and a track record<br />

of successes in working at client premises. The provider of choice<br />

will undertake a full-fledged testing of a smart SOA system, based on<br />

Websphere, with a set of complex business rules, processes, workflows,<br />

tools, and integration services.<br />

The Solution<br />

E<strong>GBM</strong> <strong>Qatar</strong> commissioned Vodafone International Services (VIS) to do the<br />

job. VIS ITO Service’s portfolio is rich with expert calibers in IBM Rational<br />

testing tools including the Functional Tester, Performance Tester, and<br />

Service Tester. VIS team is meticulously trained on best practices in defect<br />

tracking and management with persistence to deliver bug-free, highquality<br />

software that has zero tolerance for risks on deployment or high<br />

maintenance costs in future.<br />

Implementing rigorous test cases, VIS conducted a full-fledged functional<br />

testing to ensure that solution’s frontend and backend components<br />

are error-free. Testing areas included user requests and forms, business<br />

processes integrity, approval workflow accuracy, data exchange and<br />

validity, sms and notification delivery, as well as integration between<br />

government service bus and third party systems at ministries.<br />

VIS also undertook a thorough performance testing of the application to<br />

ensure optimal performance in terms of speed, accessibility, stability, and<br />

scalability. Testing activities ensured complete analysis, monitoring of the<br />

solution’s operations, identified bottlenecks, and managed resolutions to<br />

achieve maximum server response times from each request and ministry.<br />

Further verifications were made to ensure that the solution can sustain the<br />

load of maximum number of concurrent users and maximum size of the<br />

database in addition to the stress of varying loads and over capacity-loads<br />

without compromising response time.<br />

For user acceptance, VIS also performed an extensive automation testing.<br />

As per pre-set test cases and metrics, the team developed reusable scripts<br />

that would automatically run on web services hosted in the middle ware<br />

layer of the solution. The team verified the correct routing and processing<br />

of workflows and ensured that all user scenarios are properly covered and<br />

implemented.<br />
