Composting is an art learned from experience.<br />

Effective composting returns valuable nutrients<br />

into the soil. Never place meat, animal fat, or<br />

dairy products in the compost pile as these attract<br />

rodents and other pests. Also never place pet<br />

waste into the compost pile. Nitrogen and carbon<br />

are required in proper proportions for effective<br />

composting.<br />

Proper moisture is necessary for microorganisms to<br />

decompose the compost material. Clients should not<br />

be able to squeeze water from the material produced<br />

at the bottom of the pile.<br />
