Hoff a is the commander of
the Sheriff ’s Offi ce Court
Security Division and his
daily du es require him to
balance diplomacy, sound
judgment and excep onal
supervisory skills. He and
the unit are responsible
for the safe and effi cient
management of the
security for Carroll County
Circuit Court and prisoner
deten on for District
Court. The scheduling of
civil and criminal hearings,
mo ons and trials present
a challenge for alloca on of
personnel resources. Sgt.
Hoff a adeptly assesses all
opera onal requirements
and applies his supervisory
and managerial experience
to ensure that the dignity, safety and effi ciency of the courts are not
compromised.
During Sgt. Hoff a’s command of Court Security, the Sheriff ’s Offi ce has
not received a single compliant regarding punctuality, competence, job
performance or a en on to duty. The coopera on and coordina on between
the courts, deten on center and security unit is an outstanding model for the
criminal jus ce system. In addi on to Sgt. Hoff a’s responsibili es to the courts,
he also has many responsibili es while managing, supervising and mentoring
the unit personnel. He performs all of the administra ve du es such as,
appraisals, me cards, sick leave, scheduling, supplies and etc.
Sgt. Hoff a’s dedica on to duty is a ested to by the Judges, States A orney’s
Offi ce, trial lawyers and civil and criminal employees of the courts. The
comments and feedback are always posi ve, complimentary and respec ul. Sgt.
Hoff a is that “rare” employee that never brings a problem to the a en on of
command without fi rst, having the solu on to the problem at hand. Sgt. Hoff a’s
work ethics, a tude, dedica on, commitment and personal demeanor are
quali es that personify the true meaning of the “Deputy of the Year” award.
