SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION
Saturday from 4:30-5:00 P.M. or by appointment.
SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM
The sacrament of Baptism is arranged after
Pre-Baptism Class, which is required for all parents, and
is held on the second Saturday of every other month;
January, March, May, July, September, and November.
Baptism will be celebrated the second weekend of the
month during Liturgy. Make arrangements by calling the
Parish Family Life Office (337-4231).
SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE
Six months are needed for marriage preparation.
Please contact Fr. Helms prior to selecting a wedding
date.
SICKNESS
Please call the Parish Office whenever someone is ill or
whenever there is a need for Communion at home.
Home Communion calls are scheduled for Fridays.

Stewardship – a Way of Life
We have time, we have talent, and we have treasure -
all received as a gift from God to be shared with
others for a purpose.
Stewardship of TIME:
Come to daily Mass when possible.
Stewardship of TALENT:
Did you know that STM parishioners have been serving
a meal at the Salvation Army location in Iowa
City for 16 years? This parish ministry began as a
way of saying thank you by “giving back” to the Salvation
Army for its help during the flood of 1993 in
Coralville and Iowa City. Helen Quigley and Bina
Querry were the original coordinators. In 2003 Art
and Eileen DeArmond took over this responsibility.
Thank you to the many STM members who have
served these meals to God’s people in need on the 4 th
Saturday of every month, as well as those who have
contributed food and monetary donations for this
ministry.

32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
“I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the
other contributors to the treasury.” (Mark 12:43)
Notice that in the story of the widow’s mite, Jesus did
not reach into the treasury box and give the widow
back her coins. If Jesus did not exempt her from
giving, surely Jesus expects each of us to share what
we have to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and
promote the work of the Church here on earth.

share insights on the upcoming Sunday Scriptures.
When: Tuesdays, 9:45-10:45 in the church lower

How: Parishioners need only to show up.

St. Thomas More New Season Update:
Landscape Volunteers Help plant trees, shrubs, and
bulbs. Perennial planting will be done in the
spring. If you are dividing your plants and are willing
to donate plants either this fall or in the spring, contact
Susan Puhl (351-2373) She will pot your plants for
over wintering. Mark your calendar for November 22
when we will seed the prairie - a lot easier and faster
than spreading mulch (but colder!). Call Susan with
any questions

As we close another chapter of our relocation process,
I’d like to acknowledge and thank the many people who
transformed Brown Deer from a banquet hall into a worship
space week after week. They were reliable, efficient,
flexible (always adjusting for that dance floor!),
and accommodating by scrounging up every last chair
so people had a place to sit. Your efforts are greatly
appreciated! I'd like to give a special thanks to
Mary Gregg, Carol Manternach, Mark Hingtgen, and
Eileen DeArmond for rotating through the lead person
duties with me.

Just a bit of trivia-
June 2006 (Father's Day) - November 8, 2009
Approx. 41 months or 178 Sundays and 1068 man,
woman, and child hours.
Started with 14 people to set up, ended with 21,
maximum of 27.
Ten of the original 14 are still on the committee.
A total of 30 people have helped set up over the 3 1/2
years.

SECRET ADVENT PRAYER PARTNERS
What? The opportunity to pray for a STM
parishioner while one prays for you at the same
time.
When? From Advent (November 29) until
Epiphany in early January.
Why? A way to prayerfully prepare for the Holy
Season of Christmas.
Who? Anyone 18 or older (or if under 18, you
must be Confirmed.)
How? Fill out the sign-up form by Sunday,
November 22. You will receive your prayer
partner’s name before Thanksgiving.

LAST CHANCE to romp in the leaves at STM.
We will need to rake leaves one more time at the
Parish Center, not the church. The oak tree leaves
are starting to turn and most of them should be on
the ground by Sunday November 8. Many hands
are needed. Be part of the crowd to play in the
leaves and get them raked into the ravine or to the
curb. Bring all your kids and some of the
neighborhood kids.

Taizé and Labyrinth at Old Brick - Need a little
contemplative time in your life to anchor your
busy week? Join in the ecumenical Taizé service
at Old Brick on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. for simple
sung chants, silent meditation, and prayers for the
world. Beginning Oct. 4, the Chartres pattern
labyrinth is available for meditative walking from
3:00 until 7:00 p.m. on the first Sunday of the
month (Oct. – Dec. and Feb. – May), with Taizé

Holiday Mini-Retreats
Spiritual director Dorothy Whiston, D.Min., will
offer two mini-retreats in preparation for the
holiday season at First Christian Church, 900
Lincolnshire Pl., Coralville. "Gratitude and
Forgiveness: The Two Sides of God's 'Ledger'"
will explore the "economy" of a fully human life
and spiritual practices to help sustain a grateful and
forgiving heart. It will be held Saturday,
November 21, 9:30 - 11:30 AM. "Saying Yes to
God" will help people enter into the Advent season,
and the incarnation of God in the person of
Jesus, by reflecting on what it means to say "yes"
to God with our whole selves and a simple Rule of
Life to support doing that in daily life. This program
will be on Sat., Dec. 5, 9:30 - 11:30
a.m. Both events are funded through a Lilly Foundation
Sabbatical Grant and are open to the public
free of charge. Pre-registration is required -- by
Nov. 16 for the Nov. 21 program and by November
