A Parent’s Guide to the Teenage
Brain PSYC-9092
Instructor: Rick Harper
A teenager's brain is not just an adult brain with
fewer kilometers on it. It is a brain that has not fully
developed. It is a work in progress and has stymied
parents for centuries. Modern neuroscience is
now explaining biological reasons why teens can
seem so mature one minute and so maddening
the next; some struggle and some bloom; they
engage in risky behavior; they can't get out of
bed before noon on Saturday; they slam doors.
Science is tiptoeing on the edge of understanding
the teenage brain and the science is changing fast.
Understanding the teen brain can lead to smoother
relationships between parents and their kids.
“Fanshawe College was a wonderful
experience. I have attended two programs
at Fanshawe, one at the Woodstock Campus
and another at the Tillsonburg Campus.
Both had fantastic and very knowledgable
professors and the rest of the staff was very
helpful and kind. I have learned so much
attending Fanshawe, and it is because of all
the knowledge I gained and their staff for
finding me a co-op placement that I now
have a job that I really enjoy.”
