Together… SERVICES
Cancer is such a scary word, no matter how it’s spoken.
Peace of mind taken for granted, can be crushed and forever broken.
But TOGETHER we can FIGHT this!
It’s an enemy from within us, striking oh so randomly.
Tomorrow it could be you, for yesterday it was me.
So TOGETHER we should FIGHT this!
While science is advancing, my heroes still are dying.
Some treatments just aren’t working, but still we’ll keep on trying.
And TOGETHER we will FIGHT this!
Research is the magic word; it’s what we want to see.
Nothing less than a cancer cure, would mean so much to me.
For TOGETHER we have FOUGHT this!
It’ll take support from everyone, to really see this through.
So peace of mind for all of us, can start off fresh and new.
And TOGETHER we will WIN!
~ Linda Nielsen
The American Cancer Society touches so many people
on any given day… because dedicated volunteers
and supporters like you are committed to making a
difference in the fight against cancer! Cattle Baron’s
Ball started in Dallas in 1974 at the Star Brand Ranch.
In 1984, a group of individuals organized the West
Texas Tradition of Round Up: A Cattle Baron’s Ball for the
purpose of raising funds for the American Cancer
Society. These few individuals multiplied into
several hundred who became determined to organize
an ongoing fundraising event that would assist in
supporting research, education and service programs
for this worthwhile organization, which now serves
Midland and 18 surrounding counties. Celebrating
its 30th birthday this year, Round Up has raised over 8.4
million dollars for the American Cancer Society in the
Permian Basin.
Thanks to your generosity, Midland’s Round Up: A Cattle
Baron’s Ball ranks 3rd in the state of Texas and 8th in the
entire United States.
YOUR ROUND UP DOLLARS AT WORK…
Having Cancer is hard, finding help shouldn’t be. The
a portfolio to organize information while undergoing
Hope Lodge – 1,160 nights of lodging to cancer
patients and their caregivers were provided by our Hope
Lodge in Lubbock, TX, saving them over $133,400 in
hotel expenses to patients receiving cancer treatment.
Reach to Recovery® – 23 visits were made through
the Reach To Recovery® breast cancer mentoring
program which provides peer support from a breast
cancer survivor as well as recovery gifts.
Free Breast Prosthesis Program – 248 patients
received 589 free breast prosthesis and bras.
Free Wigs, Hats & Scarves – 41 patients received
this gift through the Midland and Odessa offices.
patients in treatment, includes a free make-up kit, tips
on skin, nail and wig care, and dealing with hair loss.
Transportation Assistance – 188 patients received
gas cards saving them $37,600 in gas while traveling to
and from treatment.
Road to Recovery – Volunteers drive patients to and
from their treatments.
Cancer Survivors Network – An online support
group for cancer patients and their families.
Support Groups – Support groups for cancer
patients and their families.
In Honor of…
This year’s Round Up is dedicated in Honor of
Janet Thorne Allison
A Letter from your
Chairman…
Dear Friends,
This year the American Cancer Society celebrates its
100th birthday. Round Up: A Cattle Barons Ball
invites you to celebrate its 30th birthday, themed
“Pearls and Pumpjacks.”
Each year Round Up is dedicated to local residents
who have battled cancer. Round Up 2013 is
dedicated in memory of the Honorable Judge John
Hyde. Judge Hyde was a revered member of our
community who dedicated his life to helping others.
His greatest treasure was spending time with his wife,
Sharon; daughters, Hillary and Whitney; his sonin-law,
Ryan; and his two grandchildren, Katie and
John. After a lengthy and hard-fought battle with
nonsmokers lung cancer, Judge Hyde lost his battle
on January 2, 2012.
Round Up also celebrates those who have successfully
battled this disease as evidence of what can be
accomplished with treatment and care. This year we
honor two-time breast cancer survivor Janet Allison.
Janet is living proof that self-exams, regular checkups
and mammograms can save your life. Janet has
an amazing family that includes her mother, Bobbie;
two sons, Chris and Shawn; two daughters-in-law,
Tina and Shannon; and four beautiful grandchildren,
Austin, Camryn, Cooper and Avery. They have
supported her and given her strength through not only
her battle but her grandson, Cooper’s battle as well.
Please join the Round Up Committee and me on
Saturday, May 4th, at the Commemorative Air Force
Hangar for an evening of great music, dancing,
fantastic food and great auction items as we work
together to find a cure for this disease.
Restricted
major gift
Thanks to your generosity last year, we were able to
provide tangible services necessary for patients’ care
such as transportation gas cards to help the patients
get to treatment.
Through this year’s restricted gift, we ask that you
join us in remembering our “In Memory of” the
Honorable Judge John G. Hyde who passed from
non-smokers lung cancer. Your donation will go
toward lifesaving lung cancer research, which
accounts for more deaths than any other cancer in
both men and women.
Your commitment to support our research program
will help provide individuals who hear the words
“You Have Cancer” with lifesaving measures to
help ensure successful completion of treatment,
reduce suffering and save lives. We appreciate your
continued commitment to the American Cancer
Society and thank you for helping us create a world
with less cancer and more birthdays!

Hooray! Your file is uploaded and ready to be published.
