Morton Ranch High School is located 25 miles west of<br />

downtown Houston. <strong>MRHS</strong> is one of six high schools<br />

in <strong>Katy</strong> <strong>ISD</strong>, opening in 2004. The Class of 2007 was<br />

our first graduating class.<br />

Morton Ranch High School faculty and staff are<br />

committed to the belief that every student can learn<br />

and be successful. Our mission is to provide an<br />

outstanding education in a safe, secure<br />

environment. Graduates of Morton Ranch High School<br />

will be life-long learners and productive citizens who<br />

will appreciate cultural and ethnic diversity and<br />

exhibit ethical, responsible behavior. Parents,<br />

community members, and business partners will play a<br />

pivotal role in accomplishing our mission.<br />

Morton Ranch High School is a public,<br />

four-year secondary school with an enrollment of<br />

3157 students in grades nine through twelve.<br />

The senior class of 2011 is comprised of 623<br />

students. The Morton Ranch teaching faculty is<br />

composed of 210 teachers, with a total<br />

educational and office staff of 236.<br />

Morton Ranch High School is accredited by<br />

the Texas Education Agency and the Southern<br />

Association of Colleges and Schools.<br />

Morton Ranch High School is also a member of<br />

CEEB, TACAC, and TASSP.<br />

The school day consists of seven class<br />

periods which meet five days a week. Each class<br />

period is approximately 50 minutes in length.<br />

The school year is divided into two semesters,<br />

with each semester having three six-week<br />

marking periods.<br />

Class Rank is based on a cumulative grade<br />

point average for grades 9 – 12, plus high school<br />

courses taken in junior high and credits earned<br />

via correspondence. A student’s GPA is<br />

calculated by dividing the total number of grade<br />

points by the number of semester courses<br />

attempted. Students are officially ranked for the<br />

first time after the fifth semester in high school.<br />

A full year, one period course consisting of two<br />

semesters would be equivalent to one credit.<br />

One semester equals one-half credit.<br />

Graduation Requirements<br />

Students in the Class of 2011 and thereafter are<br />

required to complete the 26-credit, 4x4 graduation plan.<br />

The Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills<br />

(TAKS) test is an exit level examination that must be<br />

passed by students prior to receiving a Texas high<br />

school diploma.<br />

Morton Ranch students in the class of 201 earned an average SAT composite score of 1427.<br />

Class of 2011 students who took the ACT earned an average score of 21.1.<br />

The Morton Ranch High School graduating class of 2011 was comprised of 623 students. Of those graduates, 88%<br />

enrolled in post-secondary education; 49% of graduates enrolled in a 4-year college or university and<br />

40% of graduates enrolled in a 2-year college or technical school.<br />
