Morton Ranch High School is located 25 miles west of
downtown Houston. MRHS is one of six high schools
in Katy ISD, opening in 2004. The Class of 2007 was
our first graduating class.
Morton Ranch High School faculty and staff are
committed to the belief that every student can learn
and be successful. Our mission is to provide an
outstanding education in a safe, secure
environment. Graduates of Morton Ranch High School
will be life-long learners and productive citizens who
will appreciate cultural and ethnic diversity and
exhibit ethical, responsible behavior. Parents,
community members, and business partners will play a
pivotal role in accomplishing our mission.

Morton Ranch High School is a public,
four-year secondary school with an enrollment of
3157 students in grades nine through twelve.
The senior class of 2011 is comprised of 623
students. The Morton Ranch teaching faculty is
composed of 210 teachers, with a total
educational and office staff of 236.
Morton Ranch High School is accredited by
the Texas Education Agency and the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools.
Morton Ranch High School is also a member of
CEEB, TACAC, and TASSP.
The school day consists of seven class
periods which meet five days a week. Each class
period is approximately 50 minutes in length.
The school year is divided into two semesters,
with each semester having three six-week
marking periods.

Class Rank is based on a cumulative grade
point average for grades 9 – 12, plus high school
courses taken in junior high and credits earned
via correspondence. A student’s GPA is
calculated by dividing the total number of grade
points by the number of semester courses
attempted. Students are officially ranked for the
first time after the fifth semester in high school.
A full year, one period course consisting of two
semesters would be equivalent to one credit.
One semester equals one-half credit.

Graduation Requirements
Students in the Class of 2011 and thereafter are
required to complete the 26-credit, 4x4 graduation plan.
The Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills
(TAKS) test is an exit level examination that must be
passed by students prior to receiving a Texas high
school diploma.
Katy ISD students must also satisfy the following academic
