What are the school hours?<br />
We start class at 7:30 and end at 2:35<br />
How many classes do we have?<br />
We have 9 periods (including lunch)<br />
What is an advisory class?<br />
Advisory period is a structured, supervised class 8 th period which you engage in silent reading, doing<br />
your homework, or access extra help from teachers.<br />
How many electives do I get?<br />
6 th and 7 th graders get one elective and 8 th graders get two<br />
What if I am absent?<br />
On the day you are absent your parent should call the Attendance Office as soon as possible to let them<br />
know you will be out. You should bring a note signed by your parent or guardian to the attendance<br />
office on the date you return to school.<br />
What about make-up work for when I was absent?<br />
Make-up work is the responsibility of the student to obtain and complete in a satisfactory manner.<br />
Teachers have a standard procedure which students should follow in order to identify the make-up work<br />
you need to complete. Student is given two days for every day missed to complete this work.<br />
What if I am late to school or need to leave early?<br />
If you are late to school you must go to the attendance office to sign in and receive a late pass to class.<br />
If you need to leave early a note signed by your parent or guardian should be brought to the attendance<br />
office in the morning. You will be given an early dismissal slip to show to your appropriate teacher and<br />
go the Attendance Office at the designated time to meet your parent. Your parent MUST sign you out at<br />
the attendance office.<br />
What if I am tardy to class?<br />
You are considered tardy when you are not in the proper place with all needed materials before the<br />
tardy bell rings.
What if I get sick while I am at school?<br />
If you are not feeling well you will need to get a clinic pass from your teacher to go to the clinic. The<br />
Nurse will decide if your parent needs to be called or if you need to go home.<br />
How much do the Lunches cost?<br />
The cost of a lunch is $1.75 or you can bring your own lunch. The snack bar has individually priced items<br />
ranging from $0.50 to $ 3.75.<br />
What are some rules of the Cafeteria?<br />
1. Cutting in line is not allowed<br />
2. Remain seated while eating lunch<br />
3. Leave tables and floor clean in the area around your seat<br />
4. Leaving the cafeteria for any reason requires permission from the Assistant Principal on duty<br />
5. Food and drinks may not be taken from the cafeteria<br />
6. No Horseplay or running<br />
7. Become quiet immediately and listen to announcements when <strong>asked</strong><br />
8. Dismiss and exit as directed<br />
Are we allowed to carry our backpacks?<br />
Backpacks are not allowed to be carried during the day. You must place your backpack in your locker<br />
before first period each day.<br />
Do we get a locker?<br />
After enrollment, you will be assigned a locker. You are not allowed to change lockers or use another<br />
locker not assigned to you.<br />
What is an ID badge?<br />
You will receive a photo ID badge after enrollment. Your ID badge will be used to check out library<br />
books, to purchase food in the cafeteria, or to access the computer. You must have your ID in your<br />
possession each day. If you lose your ID, a replacement must be purchased from the Library for $3.00.<br />
What is a Daily Planner?<br />
You are required to use a student planner to record assignments, homework, projects, reminder, etc.<br />
The cost of a planner is $3.00. If you lose your planner you can purchase a new one in the front office.
Where can I find out about the dress code at WCJH?<br />
You can read about the dress code in WCJH’s school handbook and in the <strong>Katy</strong> <strong>ISD</strong> Discipline<br />
Management Handbook, which you can access online www.katyisd.org.<br />
Can 6 th graders participate on school sports teams?<br />
No. In order to participate in sports you must be in the 7 th or 8 th grade. Sixth graders will have the<br />
opportunity to participate in intramural sports during the school year.<br />
What sports are offered for 7 th and 8 th graders?<br />
7 th and 8 th graders can try out for the following:<br />
Football – August – October, Volleyball – August – October, Basketball – November – February,<br />
Track – March – April, Tennis – March – May, Golf – March – May<br />
How do I deposit money into my student’s meal account?<br />
You may deposit money to your student’s account by check/cash given directly to the cafeteria, or you<br />
may deposit money using a credit card and logging into meal pay plus by way of the Parent Information<br />
Center found on the <strong>Katy</strong> <strong>ISD</strong> website.<br />
Can I see my child’s grades online?<br />
Visit www.katyisd.org go to the Parent Information Center (PIC) and set up an account. Once your child<br />
is enrolled, you may obtain a Student PIN# for access to the Student Dashboard (online grades).<br />
How do I contact a teacher?<br />
To contact one of your child’s teachers, visit the WCJH website. www.katyisd.org >campuses>Junior<br />
High> scroll down to WCJH and open> view staff on the left> Find your child’s teacher and click contact<br />
on the right hand side> from there you can send an email and contact information for him/her to<br />
contact you when they are available.
