Commons for the 2008 open house

four campuses during the 2008 open house in December. The SIAST Palliser
Learning Commons took the top prize for the best decorated small office.

series of workshops on academic
regulations on all the campuses.

➡➡ TWO ONLINE CLASSES for Faculty
Certificate Program (FCP) were offered
in intersession (April–May)
• Each Learning Commons offers a series
of noon hour sessions open to all faculty.
• In 2008–09, there were seven New Instructor
Orientation (NIO) sessions
for new staff.
• In 2008–09, more than 80 faculty attended
NIO sessions.
• In 2008–09 more than 110 faculty
registered in the four online courses.
• At the December open houses more
than 250 faculty and staff dropped in
to the Learning Commons at the four
campus locations.
• Approximately 30 people have received
PLAR or transfer credit for online
courses in FCP.
• Each of the four Learning Commons
has a sympodium.
• Each of the Learning Commons has a
set of 15 clickers that can be borrowed
to try out in your classroom.
• ILDC facilitators will provide customized
training for program areas.
FCP Recognizes Prior Learning:
SIAST faculty enrolled in the Faculty
Certificate Program have a number of
options when it comes to completing
the program. In addition to taking the
courses on-line through our WebCT/Blackboard
delivery, faculty can
take advantage of recognition of prior
learning for previous related course
work and/or educational experiences.
Each of the four online FCP courses
can be assessed for prior learning, either
through PLAR or transfer credit.
Any planned courses can be chosen to
match the FCP offerings. In all of
these cases, faculty should contact
Garry Ayotte at 659-4110 or their local
ILDC facilitator. They will be
happy to discuss these options.
The next New Instructor Orientation
workshops will be held in August at
SIAST Wascana and SIAST Kelsey
campus locations. Program heads
with a new faculty member should
contact the Instructional and Leadership
Development Centre office to discuss
eligibility. For more information
