What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!
Jude Thompson is a ‘Jude’ (rather than a ‘Jack’) of all trades but says the sum of her life's experiences
has helped build resilience and keep life in perspective. Jude, sole female in the Leadership Team at
Whangarei District Council, is also a windsurfer, paddle boarder, part-time poet, musician, boot
camper, partner, mum and step-mum.
Most recently she has taken on the role of Group Manager—Positive Growth, and along with her team
is tasked with leading the charge on Councils enabling role in growing the economy. Jude's expertise
is in advocating economic development and investment. In her business career, Jude has held a
variety of leadership and managerial positions in both private and public
sector organisations including a windsurfing factory in Hawaii to working
for John Britten to telecommunications to Northlands Chamber of
Commerce and Enterprise Northland. In the last five years Jude has also
gained her Graduate Diploma in Economic Development, and is in her
third year of studying Te Reo Maori.

How to register for the meeting on Monday the 30th of April:
Step 1: Send an email to bjprojects@xtra.co.nz confirming that you will be attending.
Include your name, address and your daytime phone number.
You’ll receive a confirmation that you’re on the guest list and your name will be added to the
database for future events. That is, if you’re not already on there.
Step 2: Deposit $45.00 to BNZ Account: 020492—0432044—01 use WBWN as the reference followed
by your full name.
Once the deposit appears in BJ Projects account you’ll be emailed a tax receipt.

Registrations must be confirmed and paid before 5pm on Thursday the 26th of April.

So what's the Whangarei Business Women’s Network all about??
There are many women who enjoy doing business with each other in Whangarei—whether it be to share a
problem or a success, source another woman in business to provide products or services, create a strategic
alliance or a new customer, or simply to refer them on to someone else who can help. And lets face it, we all
enjoy helping people to get what they want and solve their problems. Whangarei has a wealth of successful
women who own their own businesses, work in partnership, or support successful business owners and
operators. WBWN is an avenue for celebrating these successes and connecting with other like-minded
Women in business. The WBWN focuses on Whangarei-based business women as speakers who will share
their successes, triumphs and challenges, and their hints and tips for success, so that we can learn and grow
from their experience and knowledge.
There’s already a lot of networks in Whangarei already aren’t there?
Yes. There’s a number of successful business networks operating and generally they require a membership
fee and some form of regular attendance. This network is a ‘pay as you go’ option with no membership fees
and no attendance requirements. And any woman in business in Whangarei is welcome to attend. And—
There is only one rule: pay in advance by 5.00pm, the Thursday before the meeting.
How do I attend WBWN?
Respond by return email and pre-pay by internet banking for the meeting to reach Barbara by 5.00pm on the
Wednesday before the meeting, and then come along and join in the fun.
Door or late registrations will not be permitted.
Refunds or cancellations are not permitted, however a substitute may be sent in your place if you’re unable
to attend—simply email details through by the Friday evening beforehand. Tax receipts will be emailed as
payments are received.
Who can attend WBWN?
If you’re a woman in business for yourself, or working for someone else—you’re welcome to attend.
What do I get from my investment of $45.00?
A two-course meal will be served along with a welcome drink upon entry. You’ll have the opportunity to
participate in an activity that will help you connect with other business women. Enjoy a relaxing meal
(prepared for you) with the opportunity to converse with other women in business. Meet up and exchange
business cards; share business successes and stories, opportunities and challenges in a supportive environment;
listen to a guest speaker (a successful, Whangarei business woman) all with the sole purpose of supporting you
and your business.
Who is running it?
My name is Barbara Jaques and my business is BJ Projects. I provide:
Coaching services with a personal and/or professional focus. I believe in facilitating a session so that you
find out what works best for you by: providing a sounding board; brainstorming blockages; challenging &
questioning to help you clarify what you want. It’s your life, and you live and work it your way.
Transforming Communication—A course which focuses on developing communication & conflict
resolution skills.
As a Master Practitioner of NLP and I enjoy seeing individuals achieve success. I love the ‘buzz’ that
networking provides in allowing people to connect with others and promote their business by word of mouth
and the WBWN functioned very successfully last year, hence I’m continuing on in 2012. Like you, I enjoy
hearing about how other women do their business and what they have done to achieve their success. And, I
know that there’s a wealth of talent, knowledge, inspiration and business opportunities just waiting to be
shared in Whangarei! See you at the next meeting!
