CONSTRUCTION BEGINS SPRING 2011
In April, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) begins a resurfacing project on the shared ramp from
southbound I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) to Auth Road/southbound MD 5 (Branch Avenue) in Camp Springs. The shared
ramp splits into two separate ramps to serve motorists accessing either Auth Road or southbound MD 5. Construction will
be complete this summer, weather permitting.
Work includes removing the top layer of asphalt and resurfacing both ramps. SHA will also install new pavement
markings.
The work is necessary because the base layer of the roadway has settled and created an uneven driving surface on
the ramp. This irregular surface can pose a safety hazard for motorists exiting from southbound I-95/I-495 to MD 5
and Auth Road.
See map on reverse side.
TEMPORARY LANE CLOSURES AND RAMP DETOUR
SHA will close lanes as follows:
Southbound I-95/I-495: Single-lane closures overnight, Sunday through Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m.
Southbound MD 5/ Auth Road Ramp: Closure overnight, Sunday through Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m.
DETOUR – For traffic using the southbound I-95/I-495 ramp to southbound MD 5 and Auth Road:
Motorists will be directed to the ramp for westbound MD 414 (Saint Barnabas Road), use the MD 414 interchange to re-enter
northbound I-95/I-495, and to head back to southbound MD 5. (This detour is approximately seven miles).
