President’s Message
Hello Texas Professionals,
I am honored and humbled to have
been elected your president. My goal is to
focus our organization on you, the pros
in the field, that are doing all the work to
make Texas the great division it is. In an
effort to do that I would ask that each of
you take 45 seconds to email your contact
information (name, email address, mailing
address, work phone, cell phone, etc.)
to Charlotte Wylie at cwylie2@verizon.
net. This will help us be better able to get
information out to you in a timely manner.
Speaking of Charlotte, I would like to
take this opportunity to welcome her as
our new Executive Director for the Texas
Division. We are very fortunate to have
Charlotte in that position. Her passion for
our organization is unsurpassed. This was
Charlotte’s first conference as our ED and
it went off without out a hitch. Thanks,
Charlotte.
I would also like to welcome our newest
board member, Andy Shields. Andy has
been instrumental in arranging for the
speakers for our last several conferences
and summer retreats. A listing of the
current board members is in the column
to the left of my letter. If you have any
concerns, comments or would like to
volunteer to help out on any committees,
please don’t hesitate to contact one of us.
The annual conference and buying show
were once again huge successes. Jenny
Gray did an outstanding job with the
buying show having 49 booths this year.
This is the second largest number since
Jenny’s been running the shows. Craig Bell
and Andy Shields put together a great line
up of speakers. I heard nothing but great
reviews from all the seminars. Thanks also
to all the speakers and the vendors that
so faithfully support our shows. Thanks
to Dan Moster, national Vice President,
who came to our membership luncheon
and gave us an update from the national
board.
Thanks also to Cliff Richey and Rudy
Gatlin for making the awards banquet one
of the most entertaining ones in recent
history. We are very fortunate that the
USPTA Texas and the USTA Texas divisions
work so closely together. We are unique
in that most other parts of the country do
not enjoy the same relationship between
the two organizations.
I also write this letter with a heavy heart.
We lost a true friend at the beginning of
the year. Tim Heckler WAS the USPTA
and left us much too soon. Our most
sincere condolences go out to Renee
and the rest of the Heckler family. Tim
dedicated 30 years of his life to make us
the organization we were. Tim always did
what was best for the organization and
honored the wishes of the membership.
Unfortunately the national nominating
committee has chosen not to honor the
wishes of the membership. Last election
Dan Moster ran against one of the slated
candidates and won. This year, the
nominating committee put back on the
slate, in an unchallengeable position, the
person that Dan defeated and did not
put Dan back on the slate. They also left
off the slate of officers Randy Mattingley,
who is the most experienced person on
the current board. Hopefully we will learn
the reasoning behind this decision at the
Executive Committee meeting in Houston
in April.
The August Summer Retreat will be
held this year in Bastrop, August 22-24.
We’ll be offering a specialty course on
Thursday, the 22nd with other morning
seminars on Friday and Saturday. The
Southwest Buying Show, along with the
golf tournament, will also be held on
Friday and Saturday.
