Sunday Night at the Movies
“Jesus and the REEL Life”
Once again, we are taking the summer Sunday nights and transforming them into
“Sunday Night at the Movies.” This unique format utilizes clips from both known
and unknown movies that powerfully present timeless Biblical truths. We began
last week with a little known movie called “The Children of Huang Shi” and even
with the technical problems, the message of the importance of “Turning Points” in
one’s life came through effectively.
Before I post the summer schedule of movies, notice one change. Kevin Welch
will also be presenting/teaching this summer. Kevin has a great knowledge of
useful movies as well as insights of truth we can draw from those movies. We are
both very excited to be a part of this opportunity to grow.
The movies will deal with various themes, but the ones that are “kid friendly” will
be noted as such. Be sure and watch for those movies, especially if you have small
children. Kevin is away at camp so his list will be available next week. Here is the
schedule:
June 7 - “The Children of Huang Shi” (Bob)
June 14 - “Seven Pounds” (Bob)
June 21 - “TBA” (Kevin)
June 28 - “TBA” (Kevin) [*Kid Friendly*]
July 5 - “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas” (Bob)
July 12 - “TBA” (Kevin)
July 19 - “Bella” (Bob)
July 26 - “TBA” (Kevin)
August 2 - “TBA” (Kevin)
August 9 - “Horton Hears a Who” (Bob) [*Kid Friendly*]
August 16 - “As We Forgive” (Bob)
August 23 - “TBA” (Kevin)
August 30 - “Slumdog Millionaire” (Bob)
Each movie will target themes such as guilt, forgiveness, the will of God, redemption,
and many more Biblical themes.
We are praying for greater spiritual formation, because of the truths we discuss and
the movies we use to illustrate those truths. The time is 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and
we would love to have you join all of us!
These have been given to all the parents. Contact
Joy Comes in the Morning
“Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing
love, that we may sing for joy and be
glad all our days.” (Ps. 90:14)
It’s been nearly 3 years now since I last
experienced it. For some of you, it may have
been even longer. Others may still be
waiting...waiting to be filled with great (Luke
2:10), pure (James 1:2), complete (Phil. 2:2),
and thrilling (Luke 6:23) JOY!
I’m talking about my most previous encounter
with the birth of a new grandbaby.
But for some of you, true joy may be something
only faintly familiar: that elusive fruit of
the spirit that life experience or lack of focus
or, even, sin is robbing from you.
Most grandparents can testify to the
switch that gets toggled when that first birth
in the third generation occurs. For some reason
you just can’t stop smiling or talking about
it! And isn’t that the kind of joy in the Lord
we all desire?
In Psalm 51:12, David asks God to restore
the joy of His salvation. Is it possible
that simply being reminded of God’s love and
redemption can turn our hearts once again
towards that state of gladness? May those
of you still searching find help with your
wardrobe (Ps. 30:11), so you can thrive in the
joy that causes you to leap (Ps. 28:7), and
sing (Ps. 5:11), and shout (Ps. 33:3)!
