The 14th annual Fine Arts Woodworking Show takes place at the<br />

Orange County Fair, July 13-Aug. 12. This exhibition/competition is<br />

open to California woodworkers in Furniture (Chests, Cabinets, Tables,<br />

Desks, Seating, Studio Art, Children’s, Other), Woodturning (Open,<br />

Closed, Segmented, Embellished/Mixed Media), Accessories (Boxes,<br />

Clocks, Toys, Models), Wall Art (Fretwork, Segmented, Marquetry, Intarsia),<br />

Musical Instruments (Stringed, Other), and Carving/Sculpture<br />

(Figurative, Animals, and Utilitarian).<br />

Cash and product prizes will be awarded, and works can be<br />

priced for sale, with inquiries forwarded to artists. Fairgoers also will<br />

vote for their favorite piece in the <strong>Woodworker</strong> <strong>West</strong> People’s Choice<br />

Green FUrnItUre AWArDS<br />

The 6th annual Green Furniture Awards recognize achievement<br />

in outstanding sustainable design, which incorporates<br />

choice and sourcing of materials, production methods, efficient<br />

use of materials, and ways of disassembling and recycling. Over<br />

$13,000 in prize money will be awarded, and some pieces may be<br />

selected for production. Entry deadline is Sept. 15. For info, visit<br />

CALIFornIA SCULPtUre SLAM<br />

The Central Coast Sculptors Group hosts its 2nd California<br />

Sculpture SLAM, Aug. 23-Sept. 29, at the San Luis Obispo Museum of<br />

Art. This statewide juried exhibit will showcase 3-D artwork, including<br />

wood, glass, stone, clay, fiber, paper, metal, plastic, found objects<br />

& more. There will be three cash awards and two Artist Receptions.<br />

The Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce seeks entries<br />

in all media for Commitment to Excellence, Aug. 13-22. This<br />

35th annual art exhibit features works in all media by Hawaiian<br />

residents. Entries are being accepted on Aug. 6-7. Over $2,000<br />

Chenven ProJeCt GrAntS<br />

The Ruth and Harold Chenven Foundation gives annual<br />

awards to individual artists and craftpersons, who are engaged<br />

in or planning a new craft or visual art project. Maximum grants<br />

are $1,500. Wood artist Carrie Mae Smith was among the 2012<br />

oUtDoor SCULPtUre CoMPetItIon<br />

Washburn University in Topeka, KS will select up to nine<br />

sculptures for outdoor display, August <strong>2013</strong>-July 2014. Artists will<br />
