TRAJDOS
WINS SEASON-OPENER
Winner Wojciech Trajdos
> Wojciech Trajdos from
Poland is the fi rst Euro-Tour
Champion in 2007. In his very
fi rst appearance on the tour,
the formerly barely known
underdog managed to win the
title at the PoolComps.com
Czech Open with an impressive
run of 11-1 sets and became
the fi rst ever Polish player to
win a Euro-Tour stop. Trajdos
had a comfortable start as he
cruised undefeated through
the fi rst rounds of the bookedout
288 players strong fi eld,
before he started into the
round of the Last 64 with close
victories over seeded players
Stephane Cohen (FRA, 10-8)
and Daryl Peach (GBR, 10-9).
On his straight way to the Last
16 single-ko stage, he then
suffered a 9-10 loss against
Russian Konstantin Stepanov.
But in his following decisive
match on the one-loss side
against Italian veteran Bruno
Muratore, Trajdos showed
no nerves with winning 10-9
despite having trailed 8-9. On
his way to the fi nal he later
on seemingly effortless scored
fl awless wins over David Pascasi
(ITA, 10-5) and German
aces Ralf Souquet (10-4) and
Thomas Engert (10-5). In the
title-match, he again had to
face Konstantin Stepanov, who
-after having sent Trajdos to
the one-loss side earlier- did
let follow wins over the Germans
Wilhelm Georg (10-6)
and Joern Kaplan (10-4), before
besting betting-favourite
Marlon Manalo (PHI) with 10-6
in the semi-fi nal.
Different to the fi rst match
between the two „young-guns“,
it was Trajdos who took control
right from the start and consequently
jumped to a 7-2 lead.
Indeed, Stepanov fought back,
winning the next four racks to
close the gap to one single rack.
But Trajdos kept his fast and
loose playing-style going and
secured the next three racks for
the fi nal score of 10-6. Together
with the immortal prestige of
having won such a high-class
tournament an all-smiling Trajdos
received a winner‘s cheque
of 6.500,00 Euro.
NEWSLETTER
POOLCOMPS.COM CZECH OPEN 2007 TO WRITE HISTORY
The inaugural Euro-Tour stop in
2007 has set new records for
a number of reasons. At first
tour-organiser IBPF received an
incredible 403 annoncements
for this tournament, a more
than solid confirmation for the
enormous efforts in the past
three years to further increase
the tour being successful so far.
Despite playing the new system
with the Top 32 of the overallrankings
being seeded for the
Last 64 - what led to an increased
total of 288 spots for this
tournament - a waiting list with
far more than 100 names on it
had to be built. In this context it
was interesting to see, that not
less than 15 of the seeded Top
32 have lost their first matches
in the Last 64 and only 9 of
them made it into the single-ko
stage of the Last 16.
The worst case of being eliminated
without winning a single set
became reality for altogether 6
seeded players, under them No.
4 seed Fabio Petroni (ITA), who
had arrived to Liberec with the
merites of having won the previous
tour-stop in Malaga.
It will be interesting to see, what
these statistics will look like in
September, when this system
will be repeated at the Pool-
Comps.com Dutch Open. For
the next three tourstops in Italy,
Germany and Austria, players
can rely on the wellknown system
with every player beginning
at the same point and a finalround
of 32 players.
Another novelty was the composition
of the winner‘s podium.
With winner Wojciech Trajdos,
runner-up Konstantin Stepanov
and semi-finalist Marlon Manalo,
not less than three of the Last 4
had never reached a Euro-Tour
winner‘s podium before, what is
unique in Euro-Tour history in its
15th year.
Last but not least, the internet
statistics of the official tour-website
www.eurotour.nu reached
another all-time high with nearly
26.000.000 hits during the tournament.
This number becomes
even more impressive as the
viewers of the LiveStream on
the BWin-site are not part of this
statistics.
2007 - No. 01
DIAMOND 9 SERIES INFO
A lot of important revises
have helped to further increase
the standard of the
EPBF Eurotour. What has
been already successful in
the past, was now further
developed for the sake of
pool billiards sports in general
as the „Diamond 9
Series“. Long-termed contracts
with organizers onspot
are the key-point.
They help all involved parties
like players, visitors,
sponsors and media, to
plan for their respective
purposes. Additionally, the
total prize-money was increased
to now €40.000.
