The Barefoot Boys<br />

The Barefoot Boys (Rich Bala & Tom White) play rollicking renditions of regional<br />

Casino Night<br />
Sat., March 9 from 8 p.m. to Midnight<br />
The Greater Mahopac-Carmel Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 3rd annual<br />
Casino night to raise money for scholarships for local students. Casino<br />
Night will be held the Mahopac Firehouse on Route 6 from 8 p.m. to midnight.<br />
Tickets are $25 per person and includes $100 in play chips, food, fun, music<br />
and drink set-ups. Alcohol will not be served, but patrons are permitted to<br />
bring their own bottles. There will be over a dozen different gambling tables<br />
including roulette, blackjack, and poker tables. New this year is the addition of<br />
the Texas Hold’em Tournament. Buy in is $100 and participants will be playing<br />
for points. Prizes, which have been donated by many of the businesses that<br />
belong to the chamber, include gift cards for restaurants, memorabilia, and<br />
Yankees tickets. There will be door prizes and the first 50 people receive a free<br />
deck of cards. Tickets can be purchased through the chamber office by calling<br />

‘Sacred Garden Exhibit’<br />

“Sacred Gardens” are the core of human life, sustaining and nourishing us physically<br />
and mentally. Often religiously-influenced these sacred gardens have dated<br />
back to Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, and Ancient Rome. Buddhism had a<br />
significant influence on the Zen gardens of China and Japan. Sculptures and a<br />
Labyrinth have been used to recreate the safe and tranquil space, found on these<br />
great temple grounds to contemplate and meditate. The exhibit will be featured<br />

Youth String Octet. A Mahopac native, Reenat Pinchas began her musical studies<br />
in our town’s public school system. She first appeared as a soloist with local<br />
orchestras at age 10, and has since gone on to concertize worldwide across five<br />

The Hudson Highlands Land Trust presents non-native, and often invasive, plant<br />
species pose a serious threat to Hudson Highlands wildlife and plants by altering<br />
the landscape, leading to a loss of food and shelter. HHLT’s free community forum<br />

on how to design and maintain your property so it is a natural haven for you and<br />

‘Abstract Visions, Formed and Found’<br />
May 3 - June 2; Opening Reception Fri., May 3 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.<br />
“Abstract Visions, Formed and Found” features Cindy Booth and Jane Soodalter,<br />
two abstract artists whose work reflects unique yet symbiotic views of their environment.<br />
Booth uses solder and patinas to produce chemical reactions on copper<br />
sheets, for results that are reminiscent of fantastic landscapes and aerial views.<br />
Soodalter, through the medium of macro photography, uncovers hidden beauty in<br />
the cracked, peeling, and rusted surfaces of everyday weathered objects. The show<br />

The <strong>Putnam</strong> Cycling Classic combines competitive racing with the beauty of<br />

The <strong>Putnam</strong> Valley Parks and Recreation Department’s 2013 Sunset Carnival<br />
and Sunset Series Kickoff (located at 156 Oscawana Lake Road in <strong>Putnam</strong> Valley<br />
at the Leonard Wagner Memorial Town Park) will open with a four-day carnival<br />
event from May 31 to June 2 (6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thurs.-Fri., Sat. 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.,<br />
Sun. 12 to 7 p.m.). The event, sponsored by the <strong>Putnam</strong> Valley Parks & Recreation<br />
Department and the PVPR Sunset Series, provides families an opportunity for<br />
some early-spring fun, food, music and more with friends and neighbors. There<br />
will be live music featured; along with mechanical rides, games, food and lots of<br />
family-oriented fun.<br />
Sunday will be a dedicated “Food Day” co-sponsored by <strong>Eventful</strong> <strong>Magazine</strong> and<br />

Relay For Life is an event where teams of people gather and take turns walking<br />
around a track. We spend the day and or night together raising money to find a cure<br />
for a disease that has taken so many. There is food, entertainment, themed laps,<br />
activities for kids and adults. Every Relay For Life event begins with an Opening<br />
Ceremony where our Amazing Cancer Survivors are honored. After dusk a Luminaria<br />
Ceremony is held. The track is filled with white bags-each bag with a candle<br />
and a name. A name of someone who has survived or a name of someone who<br />
lost the battle. A lone bagpiper takes a lap and then all follow silently. Paying tribute<br />
